  • Patent number: 7222975
Abstract: A dual lamp illumination system adapted for a projection display system. The dual lamp illumination system includes a first illumination module and a second illumination module, a beam deflecting unit, and a light homogenizer. The first and the second illumination modules each includes a light source, and an elliptically-shaped housing having an interior reflective coating. The light sources each generates an optical beam comprising converging optical rays such that optical beams each has an angular distribution range of [?P, +Q] degrees, where P and Q are preferably 30. The beam deflecting unit reflects at least one of the optical beams from the first and the second illumination module and couples the optical beams to form a multiplexed beam. The light homogenizer is then for homogenizing the multiplexed beam. The invention achieves throughput of 1.5×–1.7× higher gain than single lamp illumination systems useful particularly in a projection display system.

  • Publication number: 20060268245
Abstract: An optical system for a projector and an imaging method thereof. A light beam from a light source passes through a first lens set and a second lens set sequentially. The light beam having passed through the second lens set is reflected by a first mirror to pass through the second lens set again and arrived at an imaging device. The light is reflected from the imaging device to a projection lens set to project the light beam onto a screen.

  • Publication number: 20060262285
Abstract: An imaging method. A light beam passes through a first lens set, a second lens set, an imaging device and a projection lens set. The light beam is focused in a first position. The focused light beam converges in a first relay position via the first lens set and in a second relay position via the second lens set. The optical path from the first position to the principal plane of the first lens set is defined as a first optical path, and the principal plane of the second lens set to the second relay position as the fourth optical path. The length of the first optical path is longer than twice the focal length of the first lens set, and the length of the fourth optical path is longer than twice the focal length of the second lens set.

  • Publication number: 20060146292
Abstract: A projection display apparatus, including an illumination system, a light integrator, a first mirror module, a second mirror module, a beam condensing module, a total internal reflection (TIR) prism, a light modulator, and a set of projection lenses. The illumination system generates an optical beam propagating along a first beam path in a first direction. The first and second mirror module folds the optical beam, which is imaged onto the light modulator. The modulator selectively reflects the optical beam so as to propagate along a fourth beam path in a fourth direction, where the first beam path and the fourth beam path are substantially perpendicular with respect to each other. The invention provides a compact projection system for easy carriage.

  • Patent number: 7048387
Abstract: An image projection system includes a light source for generating a light beam, a reflective housing, and an invisible-light reflector. The reflective housing includes an opening and forms an accommodating space for accommodating the light source so that the light beam can emit from the opening along an optical path. The invisible-light reflector, whose normal is arranged to form an acute angle with the optical path, is installed at a reflecting position intersecting with the optical path outside the opening of the reflective housing. The invisible light of the light beam will be reflected back to the accommodating space by the invisible-light reflector without any destruction caused by the invisible light.

  • Publication number: 20040207769
Abstract: A projection display device having a light source and a light pipe is disclosed. The light pipe is deviated from the optical axis of the light source a predetermined distance. Therefore, the distribution of lights with a virtual arc array, transmitted by the light pipe, is asymmetrical, to increase intensity and uniformity of the projection display device.

  • Publication number: 20040165155
Abstract: A light source installed in a projector for generating an enhanced light beam has a plurality of beam generators for generating light beams and a prism for deflecting the light beams to collect the light beams to form the enhanced light beam. The projector has a light pipe for uniformizing light received from the light source and an image device for processing the uniformized light from the light pipe and for projecting the processed light to form an image.
