    Abstract: A multistage high-efficiency cooling system provides coolant to both a coolant distribution unit fluidically coupled to liquid-cooled components and an air-cooling component located proximate to air-cooled components via a zone chiller. Depending on a percentage of air-cooled components versus liquid-cooled components within the system, and optionally ambient temperature, the system determines whether to adjust the temperature for the coolant provided to the air-cooling component. In one instance, the outdoor chiller provides the coolant to both the coolant distribution unit and the air-cooling component at a first temperature for operation of the cooling distribution unit, and the zone chiller adjusts the first temperature of the coolant to a different second temperature for the air-cooling component.

A virtual join index provides a new query optimization method based on enhanced join-index-rewrite to achieve cost-based late-materialization benefits without the costs for join index creation, storage and maintenance. The virtual join index is not materialized, but instead is treated by an optimizer as join index with dynamically determined columns to rewrite the query. In the join index rewrite, the columns of the virtual join index are dynamically determined by join columns in the query to produce a partial-covering query execution plan. Then, in the query execution plan, the virtual join index is replaced by a base table to produce the late materialization query execution plan.
