  • Publication number: 20230354281
Abstract: Aspects relate to carrier aggregation. Selection of an uplink component carrier for carrier aggregation may be flexible in the sense that the frequency band of the uplink component carrier need not be one of the frequency bands allocated for the downlink component carriers. Thus, in some aspects, an uplink component carrier may be decoupled from (e.g., independent of) the downlink carriers. A decision of whether to implement flexible uplink component carrier selection may be based on network traffic (e.g., particular traffic use cases). As one example, the data throughput requirement for downlink traffic may be relatively high, but the component carriers selected for the downlink traffic to provide this throughput might not provide a desired level of service for the uplink traffic. Thus, one or more component carrier bands selected for the uplink traffic may be different from any of the component carrier bands selected for the downlink traffic.

  • Patent number: 9124377
Abstract: A method, an apparatus, and a computer program product for wireless communication are provided. The apparatus receives a configuration indicating multicast broadcast single frequency network (MBSFN) subframes within a radio frame. The configuration indicates a number of symbols of an MBSFN subframe for receiving a wide area network (WAN) control signal and remaining symbols of the MBSFN subframe dedicated for peer-to-peer communication. The apparatus communicates with a peer via the symbols dedicated for peer-to-peer communication. Alternatively, the apparatus receives a configuration indicating a portion at a beginning and/or end of a guard period of a special time division duplex (TDD) subframe. The portion is reserved for an uplink timing advance and/or switching from transmission to reception and/or reception to transmission. The configuration also indicates a remaining portion of the guard period of the special TDD subframe for peer-to-peer communication.

  • Publication number: 20150215979
Abstract: Various embodiments are directed to methods and apparatus efficiently utilizing WAN system resources that would otherwise go unused for device to device communications. In one exemplary embodiment the air link resources correspond to Guard Periods (GPs) in Special Sub-Frames of an LTE TDD WAN system. In various embodiments, wireless communications devices e.g., UE devices with device to device communications capability, self-configure to operate using a portion of the GP such as not to interfere with ongoing WAN signaling. Thus the WAN signaling and device to device signaling do not interfere with respect to one another. This approach facilities recurring availability of device to device air link communications resources in a recurring timing structure in a manner that does not interfere with WAN communications and improves the likelihood that transmitted device to device signals will be successfully recovered.
