  • Patent number: 8761813
Abstract: Fast Signaling Services (FSS) for E-UTRAN based wireless systems are provided. A mobility management entity defines FSS MBSFN areas for its tracking areas and generates a FSS packet including signaling information intended for a plurality of UEs in a tracking area of the wireless network. The tracking area and its associated FSS MBSFN area includes a plurality of cells/eNodeBs. The mobility management entity multicasts the generated packet to the plurality of cells/eNodeBs in the FSS MBSFN area that covers the tracking area. The plurality of eNodeBs broadcast the packaged signaling messages to the plurality of UEs in the tracking area using the FSS MBSFN transmission. The FSS improves signaling performance of the overall system for the E-UTRAN.

  • Patent number: 8005471
Abstract: An access network of an apparatus in one example is configured to provide a wireless communication service over a coverage area and is configured to support a broadcast multicast system (BCMCS). The access network is configured to broadcast at least one broadcast control-signaling channel (BCC) over the coverage area via at least one BCMCS flow. Each of the at least one BCMCS flow is identified by a flow identifier. The access network is configured to select, based at least in part on a flow identifier registration by an access terminal, a selected BCC of the at least one BCC or another control channel for sending a signaling message to the access terminal.

  • Publication number: 20100197323
Abstract: Example embodiments provides low-cost, effective methods of mobile advertising to mobile users. The methods provide both transmitting and receiving broadcast text-formatted, category-based data relating to services from local businesses and on-demand services, to capable mobile devices in a zone formed by network nodes, without user interaction. The data may be viewed as lists with menu-driven ‘contact-list’ type software, familiar to most mobile device users and configurable by nearly all types of mobile devices. The methods also notify a user of a mobile device when new events occur or service information is updated. Example embodiments use the broadcast-multicast capability of Radio Access Networks (RAN) to transmit to mobile devices served by sectors or cells in a localized zone (e.g., one or more cells that cover a shopping mall and nearby areas).

  • Publication number: 20100173636
Abstract: The present invention provides a method for improving frequency reuse utilizing synchronized downlink resources from adjacent cells. The communication system determines that a mobile unit is receiving signals from a first cell and one or more adjacent cells. Upon receiving the data from the EPC to be sent to the mobile unit, the data is also sent to the adjacent cells from the serving cell via the X2-interface by embedding SYNC information into the GTP-U for carrying the PDUs if the adjacent cells are hosted by different eNodeBs. The first cell and adjacent cells allocate identical downlink resource blocks. The first cell and adjacent cells concurrently transmit the data to be received by user equipment within the communication system.

  • Publication number: 20090144740
Abstract: A system and method for application based enhancement to the traditional per-user based inter-user priority services is provided. This method includes provisioning a user's profile, not only with an assigned inter-user priority, but also with zero, one or more specified and provisioned applications that are considered as critical applications which require special preferential treatment by the access network. The method continues with accessing the inter-user priority profile associated for sessions established for the user. The system then recognizes that a session may have been assigned to at least one provisioned critical application. The system may then provide inter-user priority services operative to provide the specified preferential treatment for at least the critical applications associated with the session when the critical application(s) are activated.

  • Publication number: 20080037459
Abstract: A method and an apparatus are provided for obtaining dynamic registration by at least one mobile station to an access network in a high data rate wireless network. The method may include reporting location information of the at least one mobile station to the access network based on strength of pilots associated with a first set of candidate cell sectors from which the mobile station anticipates switching to a second set of target cell sectors. The method may further include registering for a dynamic broadcast-multicast service in the high data rate wireless network based on the location information of the at least one mobile station. In another embodiment of the present invention, a method and an apparatus are provided for providing dynamic registration to one or more participating mobile stations at an access network in a high data rate wireless network.

The access network is configured to broadcast at least one broadcast control-signaling channel (BCC) over the coverage area via at least one BCMCS flow. The BCC is utilized by the access network to transmit control and signaling messages to the access terminals, either independent of or in conjunction with a standard control message channel.

  • Publication number: 20070281722
Abstract: Methods and systems for providing one-to-many communication services (e.g., push-to-talk (PTT)) using composite broadcast/multicast flows in a wireless network are disclosed. A permanent broadcast/multicast control flow is used to provide session control information (e.g., announcements for replacing the traditional paging and connection setup) and OAM messages to the subscribers of the one-to-many communication service. If a request for a communication session to a group of subscribers is initiated in the wireless network, then one or more broadcast/multicast content flows are established in the wireless network to the subscribers in the group. The broadcast/multicast content flows are used to provide signaling for the session, the audio for the session, or other media type of content for the session to the subscribers in the group.
