At least one substituent on the pentacyclic core is an electron-donating, tricyclic fused ring and is connected at a para-position with respect to boron. Due to steric demand the molecular shape of the fused polycyclic compound becomes twisted, which results in modulation of the difference between singlet and triplet energy states and the rate of reverse inter-system crossing of the fused polycyclic compound.
