  • Patent number: 6357224
Abstract: The invention provides a method of controlling an air-fuel ratio and for diagnosing a deterioration of a catalyst having an NOx trapping agent in an internal combustion engine. An exhaust gas purifying apparatus having an NOx trapping agent arranged within an exhaust gas passage, an air-fuel ratio changing means temporarily changing the air-fuel ratio of the exhaust gas from the lean to the stoichiometric or rich air-fuel ratio at a predetermined cycle, a particular component detecting means detecting a particular component in the exhaust gas downstream the NOx trapping agent, a NOx discharge or reduction completion judging means, and NOx discharge or reduction completion time detecting means detecting a time required for purifying the NOx.

  • Patent number: 4596220
Abstract: An electronically-controlled cylinder fuel supply system in which an injector and an ignition plug are provided for each of combustion chambers, in which on the basis of an instruction signal to an engine and a speed of revolution of the engine, the fuel injection initiation timing and valve open duration of the injector, the ignition timing of the ignition plug and the quantity of suction air are determined through retrieval of values from a map stored in a ROM, in which a throttle valve is controlled such that the suction air quantity measured by an air flow meter coincides with the suction air quantity determined by the map retrieval, and in which the injector is provided with a fuel holding portion for temporarily holding the fuel injected during the lowered pressure of the combustion chamber and a vibration element for vibrating the fuel holding portion to atomize the fuel to thereby scatter the atomized fuel into the combustion chamber.

  • Patent number: 4494405
Abstract: An air-flow meter wherein a bypass air passage for bypassing a main air passage is provided in a throttle chamber of an internal combustion engine, and a hot wire is arranged within the bypass air passage, with the amount of air flow being measured on the basis of a change in the resistance of the hot wire. A portion for diverting the direction of air streams is disposed in an upstream part of the bypass air passage so as to assign a dust removing function, and a diameter of the hot wire is selected so that dust particles flowing to the vicinity of the hot wire do not adhere to the hot wire. A surface of the hot wire is coated with glass, and a temperature of the surface of the hot wire is maintained at or above about 100.degree. C. to enhance the prevention of dust particles adhering to the hot wire.
