  • Patent number: 6502830
Abstract: A metallic gasket installed between confronting surfaces of engine components is improved in heat conduction between the components so as to reduce the adverse thermal influence to the engine. The metallic gasket used between the confronting surfaces of, for example a cylinder head and a cylinder block is composed of an annular raised portion defining inside a gas hole in alignment with an associated cylinder bore, and a surrounding metallic sheet connected to the annular raised portion. Both the annular raised portion and the surrounding metallic sheet are made of aluminum material to render the heat conduction between the components efficient. Thus the improved gasket can reduce the adverse thermal influence such as thermal deformation, thermal stress, and so on, whether the components are made of different materials or same materials.

  • Publication number: 20020050687
Abstract: Occurrence of cracking in a metal plate serving as a constituent plate is prevented by improving heat extraction and cooling characteristics, for instance, in the peripheries of cylinder bores which encounter a high-temperature fluid. To this end, a stopper plate, which has bore openings and either or both surfaces of which are coated with a sealing coating material, is provided with sealing coating material lacking portions formed in the vicinity of the bore openings in one surface thereof. The sealing coating material lacking portions are for speeding up extraction of heat from the peripheries of the bore openings.

  • Patent number: 6328313
Abstract: A gasket comprises a thin plate to be arranged between confronting surfaces of a cylinder block and a cylinder head. The thin plate has attached with adhesives susceptible to plastic deformation at areas where the thin plate comes in mating with the confronting surfaces. The adhesives come in adhesion with the confronting surfaces to restrain relative displacement that might occur constantly between the mating surfaces of the plate and the confronting surfaces. This contributes to keeping the gasket stiff. The adhesives of plastic deformation property are arranged along peripheries of cylinder bore holes at the areas where the thin plate comes in mating with the confronting surfaces. The adhesives, when have come in adhesion with the confronting surfaces, not only establish the reliable head-to-block sealing, but also restrain the displacement that might occurs constantly between the mating surfaces, in favor of plastic deformation of the adhesives.
