  • Patent number: 8431625
Abstract: The invention relates to a composition which is polymerizable by ring-opening metathesis polymerization (ROMP) comprising at least one monomer that is polymerizable by ROMP, at least one initiator of the Hoveyda-Grubbs type for initiating the ROMP and at least one retarder selected from the group consisting of heterocyclic a means having a ring with at least one N-atom and four or less other atoms constituting the ring bearing the at least one N-atom. The invention further relates to a process for the preparation of a composition which is polymerizable by ROMP, a dental material obtainable by polymerizing a composition according to the invention and the use of a substance selected from the group consisting of heterocyclic amines having a ring with at least one N-atom and five or less atoms constituting the ring bearing the at least one N-atom or of a mixture of two or more of such substances as a retarder in ROMP.

  • Publication number: 20120107245
Abstract: A dental composition and method for detecting carious tissue on the surface of a tooth, and the use of the dental composition to manufacture a remedy for detection of carious tissue. The dental composition can comprise an aqueous solution of 1) at least one acidic compound, 2) at least one salt of said acidic compound, 3) at least one indicator that generates a detectable signal when said solution reaches a particular pH value that is less than 5.5; wherein 1) and 2) are selected such that the aqueous solution has a pH of less than that particular pH value where the indicator generates the signal. The method can comprise the steps of 1) providing the above mentioned dental composition, 2) applying said composition to the surface of said tooth, and 3) measuring the amount of time required for the composition to change color.

  • Patent number: 6245872
Abstract: The invention relates to the use of a mixture in a process for the adhesive securing of dental filling materials, comprising i) 10 to 90 parts by weight of at least one singly or repeatedly ethylenically unsaturated phosphoric acid ester, ii) 5 to 85 parts by weight of a solvent, iii) 0.01 to 5 parts by weight of an initiator which can form free radicals, and iv) 0 to 10 parts by weight of customary auxiliaries and additives, coating with polymerizable filling material being carried out immediately after the application of the mixture to the hard tooth substance. The invention offers the advantage that the mixture is applied to the hard tooth substance in one step and, unlike the state of the art, is coated with polymerizable filling material immediately without further aftertreatment and leads to adhesive joins comparable to those in the state of the art.
