  • Publication number: 20080280268
Abstract: A language teaching toy system includes a base configured as an environment theme in which a user would have a particular conversation. The language teaching toy system also includes a plurality of accessories similarly configured for use in role play with the base. The base includes an identifier such that when an accessory is associated with the identifier, the identifier can generate identifying information to determine which accessory is being associated with the base. An electronic controller can receive the identifying information from the identifier and can send an output to a speaker to announce a word associated with the particular accessory in a first language then in a second language.

  • Patent number: 7402042
Abstract: An electronic learning device configured to receive in a predetermined orientation a book having an arrangement of selectable mode icons, selectable content and a page identifier. Non-volatile memory in the electronic learning device has instructions associated with each mode icon, and data associated with the selectable content. A controller is in electrical communication with a page identification sensor and a position sensor for detecting the presence of a selector. The controller is configured a) to operate in accordance with instructions associated with each mode icon, b) to determine the position of the selector when the selector is within the active range of the position sensor, c) to recognize the page identifier, and a selection by the selector of one of the selectable mode icons, the selectable indicia or the selectable content and d) to send to the electronic user interface a signal associated with the selection.

  • Publication number: 20080113321
Abstract: An interactive learning system has a book, electronic memory, and system electronics. The book has at least one selectable object with a tactile feature. The electronic memory has stored therein data associated with the tactile feature. The system electronics comprises a selection sensor configured to detect the selection of the at least one selectable object, an audio signal generator, and a processor operatively coupled to the electronic memory, the sensor and the audio signal generator. Selection of the tactile feature causes the audio signal generator to produce an audible signal based on the data associated with the tactile feature.

  • Publication number: 20040076935
Abstract: A method for teaching linguistics with an electronic reading system having a book with selectable content and a reader having a controller with a plurality of modes of operation and having a memory having stored therein material associated with the selectable book content. The method includes the following steps: allowing a selection of one mode of the plurality of modes of operation; operating the controller in an active mode corresponding to the one mode if the one mode has been selected, otherwise operating the controller in an active mode corresponding to another mode of the plurality of modes of operation; indicating the active mode of operation of the controller; providing an instruction associated with the active mode of operation; allowing selection of the selectable content based on the instruction; and producing an output based on the material associated with the selectable content and the active mode of operation.

  • Publication number: 20040070192
Abstract: A container for releasable attachment to a book having a binding with a plurality of spaced apart openings includes first and second hook members projecting outwardly from a first end of the container. The hook members are spaced apart from one another sufficiently to be received in at least one pair of the plurality of spaced apart openings. The hook members are configured to releasably engage with the binding upon insertion into the at least one pair of openings.

  • Patent number: 5733165
Abstract: A play-inside play structure comprising a plurality of wall members, a door panel and a roof securely connectable to form a substantially enclosed play structure, said play structure having an interior space sufficiently large to accommodate at least one child therein, and said wall members, door panel and roof having a plurality of play surfaces thereon for small cars, trucks, play or action figures. The play structure and play surfaces are related in appearance, such that they both revolve around a central theme to create a synergistic imaginative and role playing effect. In the preferred embodiment, the play structure resembles a schoolhouse and the play surfaces include, but are not limited to, a functional blackboard, molded-in classroom and cafeteria areas, library, gym, swimming pool area, picnic area, slides, ladders, tunnels, school crossing signals, and playground area including a merry-go-round, hanging tires, and hopscotch outline.

  • Patent number: 5706613
Abstract: A walk-in child playhouse having pivotally attached seating surfaces. In one embodiment, the walk-in child playhouse comprises an enclosed rotomolded plastic structure having walls, a roof, and at least one chair or seat member pivotally attached to the playhouse. In another embodiment, the walk-in child playhouse has a garden party theme in which the roof has a canopy portion overhanging the rear of the house. Under the canopy are two chairs or seat members pivotally connected the rear wall and the roof via a pair of continuous bosses, the rear wall also having a substantially horizontally extending table disposed between the chairs and under the canopy. In another embodiment, the playhouse comprises a series of double-walled hollow parts that are interconnected by a unique snap interlock system. In yet another embodiment, the playhouse comprises a lateral connection member for joining various wall panels at a lower portion thereof.
