  • Patent number: 7035234
Abstract: The invention relates to operations in TDD (time division duplex) mode in third generation cellular telecommunication systems. According to the invention, the power level of midamble of the burst sent in the slot of the PICH channel has a predefined relation to the power level of the bursts sent at the primary CCPCH channel. This allows the mobile communication means to receive only one burst for obtaining both desired pieces of information by decoding the PICH bits to find out if a paging message is to be received, and measuring the reception level of the midamble of the PICH burst for determining the quality of the radio connection.

  • Patent number: 6904077
Abstract: A method and radio device are provided for interleaving a stream of data (201) including digital information symbols prior to transmission over a radio interface. A permutation is performed (202, 203, 401, 402) to the steam of digital data, thus producing a permutated stream of digital data (204). From the permutated stream of digital data there are provided at least two component streams (404) for mapping each component stream into a spreading code (406). The order of information symbols is reversed (405) in at least one component stream prior to mapping it into a spreading code.

  • Patent number: 6738624
Abstract: A method and system for reporting processing capacity of a base station (Node B) to a radio network controller (RNC), in a mobile telecommunications system. This method enables the RNC to enhance call control and resource management, especially when the Node B employs a time division duplex (TDD), but also if a frequency division duplex (FDD) system is employed. An important feature of this method is reporting processing capacity from the Node B to the RNC using the available bit rate (ABR).

  • Patent number: 6456826
Abstract: An out-of-synchronization condition for a Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) is defined for a situation in which it may be difficult to distinguish an out-of-synchronization condition in a downlink dedicated channel from interference on that channel. A request is sent on an uplink from a user equipment (UE) to a base station transceiver (BST) for increased power on a downlink channel experiencing a possible frames out-of-synchronization condition, which may instead be a possible interference condition, so as to attempt to eliminate the possible interference. After a first selected period of time without eliminating the possible interference problem, the uplink is terminated unless a broadcast downlink channel is determined to be experiencing interference below a selected level, in which case the UE is allowed to continue to send the request for increased power. Only after a second selected period of time without eliminating the possible interference problem is the uplink terminated.
