  • Patent number: 9118120
Abstract: An apparatus comprising: a conductive member configured to receive an antenna and to form a non-conductive region between the conductive member and a ground member; and a switch having a first closed configuration and a second open configuration, the first closed configuration being configured to couple the conductive member to the ground member across the non-conductive region and to provide a first current path having a first electrical length and a first resonant frequency, the second open configuration being configured to provide a second current path having a second electrical length and a second resonant frequency, the second resonant frequency being lower than the first resonant frequency.

    Assignee: Nokia Technologies Oy
    Inventors: Mirsad Cviko, Alexandre Pinto
  • Patent number: 8988290
Abstract: An apparatus and method of providing an apparatus, the apparatus including a conductive cover portion defining at least a portion of an external surface of the apparatus; a feed element configured to capacitively couple radio circuitry to the conductive cover portion at a feed point; a ground plane galvanically connected to the conductive cover portion at a ground point; wherein the feed point and the ground point are separated along a length of the conductive cover portion and configure the conductive cover portion to resonate at a first resonant frequency so as to be operable as an antenna in a first frequency band and wherein the first resonant frequency of the conductive cover portion is controlled by the separation between the feed point and the ground point.

  • Patent number: 8519895
Abstract: An apparatus has a data input device arrangement and an electrical circuit. The data input device arrangement includes at least one user input key and at least two keylines configured to provide a data input to the apparatus. The electrical circuit has at least a first electrically conductive component configured to decouple the data input device arrangement at a predetermined radio frequency band to provide an antenna. In an embodiment the predetermined frequency is an operational frequency of the provided antenna. In various embodiments when the data input device is decoupled one of the keylines provides an antenna radiator component, and in another it provides an antenna parasitic short to ground. In various embodiments the first electrically conductive component exhibits a high impedance at the predetermined radio frequency band, and in another it is a notch filter which passes the predetermined radio frequency band.
