    Abstract: An object of the present invention is to provide a novel silyl group-containing PVA-based resin having excellent adhesiveness to inorganic adherend such as glass, and a short defoam time, and to provide a use of the PVA-based resin. The novel silyl group-containing polyvinyl alcohol-based resin contains a vinyl alcohol unit, 1,2-diol unit in a side chain, and a silyl group-containing unit. An aqueous solution of the silyl group-containing polyvinyl alcohol-based resin is useful for an adhesive because of its excellent defoaming property and superior adhesiveness to inorganic adherend such as glass.
