  • Patent number: 6727336
Abstract: An ocular lens material comprising a siloxane-containing polymer obtained by polymerizing a monomer mixture containing (A) a siloxane macromonomer having at least two active unsaturated groups and a number average molecular weight of 2,000 to 100,000; and (B) a vinyl ester of lower fatty acid as essential components. An ocular lens material comprising a polymer obtained by saponification of the siloxane-containing polymer. Processes for producing the ocular lens materials. The ocular lens materials are excellent not only in lipid-stain resistance, wettability and oxygen permeability, but also in flexibility, particularly, shape recovery at the same time.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 7, 2001
Date of Patent: April 27, 2004
    Assignee: Menicon Co., Ltd.
Inventors: Eri Ito, Tetsuji Kawai, Sadanori Oono, Kazuhiko Nakada, Misako Nishibayashi

  • Publication number: 20010031318
Abstract: A process for preparing an ultraviolet-ray-absorbable and low water-containing soft contact lens, characterized by immersing a low water-containing soft contact lens in a solution (I) prepared by dissolving an ultraviolet-ray absorbing agent in a swelling solution, permeating the ultraviolet-ray absorbing agent to the inside of a swollen low water-containing soft contact lens, and then removing the swelling solution used for swelling of the low water-containing soft contact lens. According to the process, the ultraviolet-ray absorbing agent can be physically captured to the inside of the contact lens to impart ultraviolet-ray absorbability to the contact lens without elution of ultraviolet-ray absorbing agent and the ultraviolet-ray-absorbable and low water-containing soft contact lens can be prepared without inhibition of polymerization.

  • Patent number: 5910518
Abstract: A hydrophilic oxygen permeable contact lens having a front surface which is not to be in contact with the cornea of a human eye when the contact lens is worn on the human eye, wherein at least the front surface of the contact lens is coated with a hydrophilicity rendering material which renders the front surface hydrophilic and which is selected from the group consisting of: (A) hydrophilic silicone oil which is represented by the formula given in the specification and whose viscosity at a temperature of 20.degree. C. is not higher than 5,000 centipoise; (B) polysaccharide or its derivative; and (C) denatured collagen whose average molecular weight is in a range of 400.about.100,000. Also disclosed is a method of producing the hydrophilic oxygen permeable contact lens.
