  • Patent number: 6031796
Abstract: An optical disk apparatus for performing recording and reproduction of information on an optical disk is disclosed. The optical disk has a sector format which consists of a sector mark area in which a sector mark is recorded and an address area in which a plurality of VFO segments and ID segments are alternately provided. The apparatus comprises a sector mark detector, a read gate controller, a PLL controller and an address information detector. The sector mark detector detects the sector mark. The read gate controller controls a read gate to be opened and closed. The read gate enables readout of information from the VFO segment when it is opened. The PLL controller initiates synchronization of a signal read from the VFO segment with a PLL in response to the opening of the read gate. The address information detector detects an address identifier recorded in the ID segment.

  • Patent number: 5914927
Abstract: An optical disk apparatus having an optical head for reading and writing signals on an optical disk and a signal processing unit for performing predetermined signal processing on the signals is disclosed. The apparatus includes a first controller, a second controller, a detector, and an adjuster. The first controller controls the optical head to write a predetermined signal on a predetermined area of the optical disk with various levels of recording power of the optical head. The second controller reproduces the predetermined signal written on the predetermined area of the optical disk. The detector attempts to detect a predetermined signal pattern having a predetermined period from the reproduced signal with different slice levels. The adjuster determines a resolution of the reproduced signal in accordance with a slice level with which the signal pattern can be detected and automatically adjusts the recording power of the optical head based on the determined resolution.

  • Patent number: 5898666
Abstract: A method of bidirectional data transmission with a single transmission line using a time-compression multiplexing method, which is configured to allow a downstream channel capacity to be higher than an upstream channel capacity. In a bidirectional communication system, a master unit and a slave unit exchange data alternately in the time-compression mode. The method, according to the present invention, sets a downstream data transmission time, tm, for data transmission from the master unit to the slave unit is set longer than an upstream data transmission time, ts, for the opposite direction. As a result, the downstream data rate (or the amount of data transferred in the downstream direction per unit time) becomes larger than the upstream data rate.

  • Patent number: 5353305
Abstract: An initial gain of an automatic equalizer is fixed to a predetermined value. Then, the most appropriate gain of the automatic equalizer is determined when a training signal is received by the automatic equalizer. An echo replica signal produced by an echo canceler is multiplied by the value obtained by dividing the most appropriate gain by the initial gain. Thus, the echo replica signal is corrected to cancel the echo signal included in the output of the automatic equalizer. The sampling rate of the A/D converter used in the transmitter and receiver is shifted by a predetermined value from the transmission line rate at an initial training stage. Thereafter, the sampling rate of the A/D converter is determined to be near that of the transmission line.

  • Patent number: 5234382
Abstract: An apparatus for limiting deviation of an endless belt/belt sleeve from a desired rotational path. The apparatus has first and second rollers each having a rotational axis and cooperatively supporting an endless belt/belt sleeve trained therearound for rotational movement in a predetermined path. A first member is mounted on one of the first and second rollers for movement axially relative to the one of the first and second rollers. A blocking structure defines a shoulder for engagement with an edge of an endless belt/belt sleeve trained around the first and second rollers to limit movement of an endless belt trained around the first and second rollers in a first axial direction relative to the one of the first and second rollers.

  • Patent number: 5056121
Abstract: A circuit for obtaining accurate timing information from a received signal, first, obtains an impulse response at a certain phase, which phase is determined based on a reference phase of a receiver clock, and then the obtained impulse response is compared with a reference level. As the reference level: a predetermined value just below the maximum value of the overall impulse response; an impulse response at another phase; or an impulse response at the same phase in a previous period, is used. The reference phase is controlled, according to the result of the comparison.

  • Patent number: 5007044
Abstract: Disclosed is a digital adaptive filter and a method of cancelling an echo component generated by a partial return of a transmission signal to a receiving side. The digital adaptive filter comprises: a main memory unit for storing a first echo replica which can be stored or read by using the parallel signal from a main tap unit as an address signal, at least one submemory unit for storing a second echo replica which can be stored or read by using the parallel signal from said subtap unit as an address signal, and an adding circuit for adding the first echo replica and the second echo replica. The second echo replica stored in the at least one submemory unit has a greater precision than the precision of the first echo replica stored in the main memory unit, and thus the accumulated error due to memory division can be reduced.
