  • Patent number: 9116791
Abstract: A SIM card including: (a) a first NVM for storing user data; and (b) a second NVM, separate from the first NVM, for storing management data related to the user data. Preferably, the first NVM is block-erasable and the second NVM is word-erasable erasable. Preferably, the first NVM is a flash memory and the second NVM is an EEPROM. Preferably, the management data includes a mapping table for mapping virtual addresses, of the first NVM, to physical device addresses. Preferably, the user data and the management data are organized in a file system. Most preferably, the management data includes at least one file allocation table. Most preferably, the management data includes at least one files directory, wherein at least one files directory includes at least one item selected from the group consisting of: a file name, a file size, a file attribute, and a physical address of a file sector.

  • Patent number: 8787973
Abstract: A memory card includes a memory for storing data and a controller that is operative to control access to storage of at least a portion of storage conditional upon an authorization of a corresponding identity card of a service provider. A storage system includes an identity card of a service provider and a memory card, wherein the identity card corresponds to the memory card, and wherein access to storage of at least a portion of the memory card is controlled conditional upon an authorization from only this corresponding identity card. A method of doing business includes equipping a mobile phone with an identity card that corresponds to a memory card, configuring the memory card to operate conditional on an authorization from this corresponding secured card, and then offering the mobile phone and the memory card for sale at a discount.

  • Publication number: 20100122054
Abstract: A data storage device provides information to an application while protecting the information from being copied. Particularly, the data storage device may include a detector to detect an access to an indicator. The indictor may be integrated with the information in such a way that a copy application will access the indicator when copying the information but another application using the information (e.g. a database application) will not access the indicator. The data storage device may further be configured to undertake a defensive response when access to the indicator is detected. Defensive responses may include terminating the access, issuing a report, or sending spurious data to the host. The configuration of the indicator and timing of the response may be chosen to impede separation of the indicator from the data.

  • Patent number: 7243856
Abstract: Portable smartcard devices, methods of executing program code using smartcard devices, and computer readable storage media including instructions for smartcard devices are provided. According to some embodiments, the presently disclosed smartcard device includes an interface for presenting smartcard functionality to a host system and for receiving a program execution command from the host system, non-volatile memory, executable memory, a copying mechanism such as an internal copying mechanism for copying program code from the non-volatile memory to the executable memory, and a program execution mechanism for executing the program code. Appropriate interfaces include but are not limited to ISO 7816 compatible interfaces, USB interfaces, and MMC interfaces. In some embodiments, the smartcard functionality includes SIM functionality and/or USIM functionality. Optionally, execution of the program code commences when only a portion of the copied executable code resides in the executable memory.

  • Patent number: 5964853
Abstract: A controller handles host commands from a host processor and also interfaces the host processor to a serial device. Storage circuitry (e.g., a shift register) of the controller holds a predetermined plurality of data bits. State machine circuitry controls the storage circuitry for serial bit-level communication (e.g., using a PS/2 protocol) between the storage circuitry and the serial device. A processor executes code from a program memory. In particular, the program code causes the processor to detect that a host command has been received by the controller from the host processor and causes an action corresponding to the host command received. Because the processor is not involved with the serial bit-level communication between the storage circuitry and the serial device, the processor executing the software can handle host commands without affecting the serial bit-level communication.
