  • Publication number: 20200402120
Abstract: A system and method that help to increase the likelihood of success in cultivating home gardens is described herein. The method includes the steps of receiving a customer's location data and a desired planting date, and accessing weather data for the customer's location and plant life cycle according to the desired planting date. For each plant in a plant collection, a computer server computes a success score for each growth phase in the life cycle of the plant, computes a total success score equal to a sum of success scores for all the growth phases, and ranks all plants in the plant collection according to the total success score. A recommendation of at least one high-ranking plant from the plant collection is then made to the customer.

  • Patent number: 10524892
Abstract: The present invention relates generally to a method and apparatus for deploying and/or retrieving an object (e.g., a vena cava filter) in a cavity (e.g., a vena cava) using a system configured to: (i) maintain grip of the unsheathed object in the cavity until deliberately released, (ii) prevent premature release of the object in the cavity, and/or (iii) facilitate retrieval by first everting said object, then withdrawing the object through a guiding catheter (e.g., retrieval via eversion).

  • Patent number: 9639816
Abstract: A survey data structure is described that specifies how to administer a survey to each of a group of people. The data structure contains an entry that specifies text that poses a fabrication gauge question for which a percentage of the population who can accurately answer the fabrication gauge question affirmatively is known. The data structure further contains a plurality of entries that each specify text posing an unlikely question for which the percentage of the population who can accurately answer the unlikely question affirmatively is small. The data structure specifies how to conduct a survey that serves as a basis for determining which people to whom the survey is administered are responding truthfully to the survey.

  • Patent number: 8572019
Abstract: A categorization data structure is described that relates to two groups of individuals. For each of two or more categories, the data structure contains (1) information identifying individuals of the first group assigned to the category, and (2) information identifying individuals of the second group assigned to the category. For each category, the information can be used to adjust the individuals of the first group assigned to the category based upon comparing the proportion of all of the individuals of the second group that are assigned to the category to the proportion of all of the individuals of the first group that are assigned to the category.

  • Publication number: 20100218623
Abstract: A sample carrier generally comprises a sample node and an identifier co-located with the sample node. A sample node may be operative to carry a discrete sample, while an identifier may be operative to provide information associated with the sample carried by the sample node. Embodiments of a sample carrier may comprise a plurality of sample nodes supported in a predetermined spatial relationship relative to a respective sample container such as a respective well of a multi-well plate. A system and method of transferring specimens to a sample carrier include contacting a sample node to the specimen and encoding information associated with the specimen on the identifier. Various alternatives are disclosed wherein the specimen is solid, gaseous, and liquid in form.

  • Publication number: 20040098204
Abstract: A method is disclosed for requesting genomics services from a service provider over the Internet and providing genomics services to a client over the Internet. The client provides biological samples and identifies genome sequences of interest. The service provider obtains the biological samples and genome sequences, provides microarrays containing the identified genome sequences, and applies the biological samples to the microarrays. The client receives the results of the analysis over the Internet. The genomics services provided include genotyping, gene expression, and proteomics. The Client is able over the Internet to obtain the current status of the samples and the experiments and to modify the requested experiments based, for example, on the analysis of previously obtained results.
