    Abstract: A sports lighting fixture having improved light delivery characteristics includes an elongated bare arc tube, high intensity discharge lamp disposed near the apex of a parabolically shaped reflector member. The reflector is constructed of a non-metallic material and by the orientation and positioning of the lamp within the reflector, an essentially oval shaped light pattern is generated. A light transmissive cover is disposed over the open end of the reflector. When projected onto the playing surface of a sports field, the oval shaped light pattern translates to an essentially circular shaped pattern which allows for a more uniform and efficient overlapping of the multiple light outputs at the playing field level. Louvers can be disposed within the reflector to further redirect any high angle light output into a lower angle which is more useful at the playing surface level.

    Abstract: A cover plate is designed for use in either wall mounting or ceiling mounting applications. The cover plate comprises a base forming a base plane for mounting said plate flush against a support surface. A main body is connected to the base and has a generally flat mounting surface disposed in the plane parallel to the base and a sloped mounting surface inclined with respect to the base plane. A pair of first mounting holes are formed in the flat mounting surface which have an axis substantially perpendicular to the base plane. A pair of second mounting holes are formed in the sloped mounting surface and have an axis disposed at an angle with respect to the base plane. In ceiling mounting applications, lighting fixtures are received in the first mounting holes. Conversely, in wall mounting applications, the lighting fixtures are received in the second mounting holes.

    Abstract: An adjustable beam light fixture with glare light shielding for illuminating a selected area without illuminating other areas. The adjustable beam light fixture has a reflector for holding a lamp and directing light from the same. The reflector is adjustably mounted on a housing. The mounting is accomplished by means of slots formed in the reflector and threaded fasteners extending outwardly from the housing and into the slots. The portion of the reflector adjacent the housing is arcuately shaped and a portion of the housing adjacent the reflector is arcuately shaped as well and with the same degree of arc. In the preferred embodiment, the housing includes means for mounting the adjustable beam light fixture on a surface.

    Abstract: A lighting fixture having a new and improved sensor housing and an adjustable mast arm. The sensor housing includes a top wall, a bottom wall, a back wall having a first lead aperture for establishing electrical and mechanical connections between a proximity sensor and a source of electrical power, a transition wall, a pair of side walls, and at least one drain aperture located between the transition wall and the bottom wall. A first partition wall is located between the bottom wall and the transition wall. The first partition wall extends between the pair of side walls to form a cavity including at least one drain aperture for preventing the accumulation of water in the sensor housing. An adjustable mast arm is connected between the base and the sensor housing.

    Abstract: In an industrial luminaire having an acrylic reflector for directing light output in a desired pattern, and in which a high wattage light source is utilized, a cooling sleeve constructed of a light transmissive material is mounted in surrounding proximity to the light source. The cooling sleeve is cylindrically shaped with at least one opening through which heat generated by the light source can be channeled away from the acrylic reflector in a chimney like manner. The cooling effect of the sleeve is further supplemented by the ability to pass a flow of air within the reflector, around the cooling sleeve, and through a space formed between the reflector and the cooling sleeve. A venting arrangement can be formed in the housing or other support structure on which the reflector, light source and cooling sleeve are mounted.

    Abstract: This luminaire has a reflector of substantially transparent material that is adapted to surround a light source. The reflector has many double-reflector right-angle prisms on its outer surface, each characterized by having two reflecting surfaces disposed to effect total internal reflection of a large percentage of the light from the source entering the prism. For controlling the amount of light passing from the source through the prismatic outer surfaces of the reflector, an additive in particle form is dispersed within the transparent reflector material and serves to divert some of the light rays entering the prisms into paths that intersect the reflecting surfaces at angles less than the critical angle of incidence, thereby causing said diverted rays to pass through the prismatic outer surface.

    Abstract: In this luminaire, there is a dome-shaped reflector having a top, a bottom, and a central axis on which a light source is adapted to be positioned. A metal wall of the reflector has an inner surface extending about the central axis and defining a bottom opening through which the inner surface reflects light received from the source. The angular distribution about the central axis of the light reflected from the inner surface through the bottom opening is controlled by many elongated facets on the inner surface extending in a top-to-bottom direction with respect to the reflector. The facets are arranged about the central axis in side-by-side relationship, with juxtaposed facets being at an angle with respect to each other so as to form alternating ridges and grooves between juxtaposed facets. The individual ridges, when viewed in transverse cross-section, each include two of the facets intersecting at an apex that is located on a reference line for each ridge extending radially outward from said central axis.

    Abstract: This luminaire comprises a reflector for receiving a lamp, an opening in the reflector through which light from the lamp is reflected, and a closure removably secured over the opening. Within the luminaire is an energizing circuit for the lamp, and connected within this circuit is a pair of disconnect contacts that are separable to preclude energization of the lamp via the energizing circuit. Actuating means for the disconnect contacts is operable to effect separation of the contacts in response to removal of the closure from its normal position covering the opening. This actuating means includes a plunger of electrical insulating material disposed between the light-transmitting material of the closure and one of said disconnect contacts.

    Abstract: This luminaire comprises a generally dome-shaped main reflector having a bottom opening and a top opening and a lamp within the main reflector defining a light source located between the top and bottom openings. This main reflector, when mounted in a location above a warehouse aisle, is adapted to illuminate stacked material along both edges of the aisle with light passing through the bottom opening. Positioned above the top opening are auxiliary reflectors for receiving light from the source passing through the top opening and for reflecting such light to the edges of the aisle onto regions of the stacked material that are poorly illuminated by light passing through the bottom opening.

    Abstract: This luminaire comprises a metal housing surrounding an internal space and having a mouth at the front side of the housing. Within the housing is a double-ended lamp comprising a tube of transparent material and terminals at opposite ends of the tube. Also within the housing is a pair of sockets, each comprising contact structure for receiving one of the terminals and a ceramic support for supporting said contact structure. A ceramic reflector partially surrounds the tube. This ceramic reflector and the ceramic supports of the sockets constitute portions of a single integral ceramic piece that is adapted to be inserted through said mouth into said internal space as a single unit during assembly of the luminaire.

    Abstract: This luminaire comprises a reflector of transparent material having a prismatic outer surface that includes many juxtaposed prisms. Each prism includes two reflecting surfaces meeting at an apex and having portions disposed to effect total internal reflection of a large percentage of the light rays from the light source of the luminaire. Immediately adjacent the outer surface of the reflector, there is a cover of substantially transparent material that protects the prism reflecting surfaces from deposits that could interfere with their total internal reflecting properties. The cover is spaced from the prismatic outer surface at substantially all points on the prism reflecting surfaces where such reflecting surfaces are disposed to effect total internal reflection of the light source rays.

    Abstract: A high intensity discharge metal vapor lamp comprising an arc tube having an inner chamber vented to the arc tube and disposed therein is disclosed. The combination of the arc tube and inner chamber being of a double wall construction confines the arc condition occurring between thermionic electrodes to be within the inner chamber. The inner chamber is operated at an increased wall temperature, relative to a conventional arc tube, while at the same time reducing the typically experienced sodium losses that normally occur for increased wall temperature operation. Ceramic evaporation at elevated temperatures from the inner chamber can be rendered innocuous by deposition on a similar material utilized in the arc tube. The characteristics of the arc tube allows for improved methods of its operation such as a pulsed operation at a relatively high rate of 1 to 20 KHz so as to achieve a relatively high color temperature. If desired, the arc tube may be operated in a d.c.
