  • Publication number: 20150162597
Abstract: This method enables the use of nanowire or nano-textured forms of Polyaniline and other conductive polymers in energy storage components. The delicate nature of these very high surface area materials are preserved during the continuous electrochemical synthesis, drying, solvent application and physical assembly. The invention also relates to a negative electrode that is comprised of etched, lithiated aluminum that is safer and lighter weight than conventional carbon based lithium-ion negative electrodes. The invention provides for improved methods for making negative and positive electrodes and for energy storage devices containing them. The invention provides sufficient stability in organic solvent and electrolyte solutions, where the prior art processes commonly fail. The invention further provides stability during repetitive charge and discharge. The invention also provides for novel microstructure protecting support membranes to be used in an energy storage device.

  • Publication number: 20110281363
Abstract: A method for detecting and measuring a metal ion in an aqueous medium includes derivatizing a solid phase extraction material with a reactive material that undergoes a chemical reaction when contacted with the metal ion. The solid phase extraction material and the reactive material are positioned in an aqueous medium containing the metal ion, such that the metal ion contacts the reactive material and causes it to chemically react. The reaction of the reactive material is detected by optical spectroscopy to detect and measure the metal ion.

  • Patent number: 4256967
Abstract: An arc reactor device for producing nitrogen oxides by an arc discharge process includes an electrically conductive casing, defining an arc discharge chamber therein, and an electrically conductive discharge electrode electrically insulated from the casing and extending into the chamber. An arc discharge potential is applied between the discharge electrode and the casing to produce electrical arcing. A starter electrode extends into the chamber and is movable from an extended position in which it contacts the discharge electrode, to a retracted position, in which the starter electrode is out of contact with the discharge electrode. A means for moving the starter electrode from the extended position, at initiation of operation, to the retracted position and maintaining the starter electrode in the retracted position during operation of the arc reactor device includes a solenoid actuator. Air is supplied to the electrically conductive casing from several manifolds which surround the casing.
