  • Patent number: 4681667
Abstract: A method of producing a laminated type electrostrictive effect element composed of a plurality of layers of electrostrictive material and a plurality of thin internal electrodes placed between adjacent layers of the electrostrictive material. The internal electrodes are exposed in side surfaces of the electrostrictive element parallel to the direction of lamination. Alternate internal electrodes are electrically connected in common to form a first group and a second group of internal electrodes, for connection to a power supply to produce a longitudinal electrostrictive strain in the direction of lamination. The method of the invention provides an efficient technique for electrically connecting alternate internal electrodes in common. The method involves forming an insulating layer of inorganic material such as glass or glass-ceramics over the portions of the exposed internal electrodes which are not to be electrically connected.
