  • Patent number: 5443925
Abstract: A nonaqueous electrolyte battery has a positive electrode, a negative electrode and separator laminate rolled into a spiral electrode unit contained in an external case filled with nonaqueous electrolyte. Battery voltage is between 3.5 V and 5.0 V when charged. A positive electrode supporting member material and the external case are both aluminum. The positive Electrode supporting member is exposed for at least a portion of the outermost winding of the spiral electrode unit, and this exposed supporting member contacts the inner surface of the external case to make an electrical connection.

  • Patent number: 4804593
Abstract: The present invention relates an enclosed cell and fabricating methods of the cell which has a safety valve mechanism for releasing gas from inside the cell when an internal pressure of the cell rises to an excessive degree. The characterizing feature of the invention resides in the use of a resin packing as sealing element, junctions between the resin packing and a metal lid and between the resin packing and a polar terminal being closed tight by thermal fusion. This construction assures reliable sealing in normal state, and permits the packing to break with an excessive rise in the internal pressure thereby to release gas from inside the cell. The cell of this invention is readily fabricated by injection molding or by a hot press process. Therefore, the enclosed cell according to this invention is fabricated very rationally and inexpensively, assures excellent sealing and safety, and has wide application.

  • Patent number: 4587180
Abstract: A non-aqueous cell of the type having a negative electrode of a light metal such as lithium or sodium pressure bonded either directly or through the medium of a negative-electrode current collector to the inner surface of a negative terminal case, which non-aqueous cell has means for buffering heat transfer disposed inside said negative terminal case and allows a connecting tab to be bonded by welding at one end thereof to the outer surface of said negative terminal case at the position opposite that of said means for buffering heat transfer.

  • Patent number: 4216247
Abstract: The present invention discloses a method of manufacturing positive electrodes for nonaqueous cells in which manganese dioxide is used as positive active material and light metals such as lithium, sodium or aluminium are used as negative active material, said method comprising the steps of adding to manganese dioxide active material powder, a binder and a viscous agent solution decomposable at temperatures lower than the melting point of the binder, thereby to form paste, applying such paste to the supporting member, and heat-treating this paste-applied supporting member firstly at the decomposition temperature of the viscous agent in an oxidization atmosphere, and secondly at the melting point of the binder under vacuum or in an inert atmosphere, whereby a decrease in the discharge capacity during the manufacture is restrained, to improve the cell performance.

  • Patent number: 4133856
Abstract: A process for preparing positive electrodes for non-aqueous cells is provided. Manganese dioxide is heat treated at a temperature of from 350 - 430.degree. C; the treated manganese dioxide is mixed with a conductive agent and binder and the mixture molded; and the molding is heat treated at a temperature of from 200 - 350.degree. C. The process provides positive electrodes for non-aqueous cells having excellent discharge characteristics.
