Patent number: 7430092Abstract: Offtrack amounts corresponding to every servo in which data writing has been completed is stored in a storage unit. Offtrack amount corresponding to a next servo frame, which is a servo frame present next to a servo frame for which data has been written, is calculated from the offtrack amounts stored in the storage unit. Based on the offtrack amount of the next servo frame, it is decided whether data needs to be rewritten in a sector present before the next servo frame.Type: GrantFiled: January 31, 2007Date of Patent: September 30, 2008Assignee: Fujitsu LimitedInventors: Yukio Abe, Takeshi Hara, Mitsuo Kamimura, Shunji Saitoh

Patent number: 6819519Abstract: This invention relates to a head position control method for a disk device that uses a disk medium whose tracks have been formatted externally, and a disk device that effectively uses the range of motion of an actuator. In a disk device that has a disk medium, a head, an actuator, a control circuit, there is a conversion mechanism that sets a data area in the writing range of the disk that corresponds to the range of motion of the actuator, and converts a logical address to a physical address in the data area. This invention makes it possible to set a storage capacity that makes maximum use of the range of motion of the actuator for any device, even when there is a position offset in the range of motion of the actuator.Type: GrantFiled: December 21, 2000Date of Patent: November 16, 2004Assignee: Fujitsu LimitedInventors: Kazuhiko Takaishi, Yasumasa Kuroba, Mitsuo Kamimura, Tomoyoshi Yamada

Patent number: 6798604Abstract: The controller circuit is designed to generate the positioning control signal based on the positional deviation of the head from a target recording track on a recording medium. A feedback control is effected to position the head right on a trajectory corresponding to the target recording track based on the generated positioning control signal. The positioning control signal is subjected to filtering at a notch filter. The cutoff frequency of the notch filter is set depending on the temperature detected at a thermal sensor. Even when the resonant frequency shifts in response to variation in temperature, the cutoff frequency of the notch filter follows the shift of the resonant frequency. A narrower bandwidth of the cutoff frequency still achieves reduction in the amplitude of the frequency component corresponding to the resonant frequency. The resonance or continuous vibration can reliably be prevented in the head.Type: GrantFiled: October 26, 2000Date of Patent: September 28, 2004Assignee: Fujitsu LimitedInventors: Mitsuo Kamimura, Yoshinari Higashino, Kiyoshi Sakuma, Yukio Abe, Kunihiro Shimada, Atsushi Suzuki, Takeshi Hara, Kentaroh Katoh
