  • Patent number: 4103466
Abstract: A bay window unit is adapted to cover an opening in a building wall. An overhanging roof decking structure has a vertical first mounting portion at its inner end adapted to be fixedly secured to a fixed header in the building wall, a second mounting portion at its outer end, and a downwardly facing third mounting portion disposed intermediate the first and second mounting portions. A generally horizontally extending bracket member has its inner end secured to an exterior vertical surface of a fixed sill in the building wall. A frame of an exterior window assembly is disposed at the outer ends of the roof decking structure and the bracket member. A frame header is fixedly secured to the second mounting portion, and a frame sill rests on and is fixedly secured to the outer end of the bracket member.

  • Patent number: 4087950
Abstract: A fixed sash window comprises an outer frame within which there is fixedly mounted a sash including an inner frame embracing the periphery of a panel of glass or like material. The outer frame has formed therein inwardly opening grooves for receiving respective tongues projecting outwardly from the inner frame. The inwardly opening groove in either the sill or header of the outer frame is defined in part by a snap-on batten occupying part of a recess formed longitudinally in the sill or header along one of its inside edges. The inner frame is made smaller in size than the outer frame, to such a degree that gaps are formed therebetween to accommodate sealing strips of rubber or the like which are dually effective for weathertightly sealing the gaps and making the inner frame immovable with respect to the outer frame.

  • Patent number: 4074490
Abstract: A decorative window sash frame assembly for peripherally holding a panel member comprises a rectangular frame having a decorative pattern on its interior surface. The frame has a pair of inwardly opening, continuous interior and exterior channel sections formed around the inner periphery of the frame. The interior channel section has a retaining means, and the exterior channel section is adapted to receive the peripheral edge of the panel member. A decorative attachment means extends along the interior channel section and has an engaging means engaging the retaining means to detachably retain the decorative attachment means in position relative to the frame whereby that portion of the decorative attachment means exposed to view gives the window sash a pleasing interior appearance in combination with the decorative pattern on the frame.

  • Patent number: 4065163
Abstract: A hook bolt lock set used on the meeting stiles of a pair of sliding doors has a hook bolt lock mounted in one of the meeting stiles and having a hook bolt capable of projection toward and retraction from the other meeting stile in a direction normal to the planes in which the doors are movable. A strike plate is attached to the other meeting stile and has a central opening and a pair of bolt apertures located one on each side of and symmetrically in position with respect to the central opening, one of the bolt apertures being wider in width than the other. When the doors are fully closed and if the hook bolt fails to be received in a narrower bolt aperture, then the strike plate is turned upside down to let a wider one receive the hook bolt unobstructedly.

  • Patent number: 4055916
Abstract: An exterior window unit for covering the outside of an opening in a building wall. The unit has a frame header comprising a vertical mounting plate, a first horizontal plate projecting outwardly from the mounting plate, a second horizontal plate projecting outwardly from the mounting plate and spaced upwardly of the first horizontal plate, and a slanted surface extending downwardly from said second to said first horizontal plate. The second horizontal plate has at its outer end a drip flange projecting downwardly therefrom.

  • Patent number: 4013371
Abstract: A jointing device for securing a horizontal frame member to a vertical frame member comprises a strip having its longitudinal ends extending beyond the vertical width of the horizontal frame member and including a central portion extending substantially over said vertical width. There are provided first holes formed through the central portion of the strip and second holes formed adjacent the longitudinal ends of the strip. The strip is first screwed to a longitudinal edge of the horizontal frame member through the first holes and then screwed to an inner wall of the vertical frame member through the second holes, thereby coupling the frame members together.

  • Patent number: 4002195
Abstract: A middle rail assembly for centrally clamping a screen within a frame structure is disclosed. The middle rail includes a supporting member, a C-shaped cover and a plurality of coupling means tightly received into apertures formed in the supporting member. The coupling means are configured to be forced through the screen and fit into the apertures. The screen is therefore tightly clamped at the middle rail.

  • Patent number: 3991533
Abstract: A combination louver and window sash assembly includes a plurality of louver boards extending horizontally and each having a cross-section of substantially inverted-Y shape. A pair of parallel, vertical sash frames having vertically extending slots faced in opposed relation to one another and including pairs of cutout recesses formed in the marginal edges of the slots. The louver boards have their horizontal ends thrusted resiliently through the slots and received snappingly in the cutout recesses.

  • Patent number: 3991436
Abstract: To prevent the wear of, and noise production by, the opposed or abutting ends of knuckles on a pair of hinge leaves, a pair of rings of wear resisting material are interposed between the opposed ends of each two adjacent knuckles, with a pintle passing through the knuckles and rings. The rings have pairs of fingers gripping the opposed marginal edges of the leaves, respectively, so that the paired rings rotate relative to each other with the swinging movement of the leaves. Each ring with its pair of fingers is exactly flat and is therefore manufacturable by punching from sheet metal, plastic or the like.

  • Patent number: 3984955
Abstract: An exterior window unit for covering an opening in a building wall includes a frame sill which is slidable coupled with an elongated attachment plate member to be secured to a top surface of the fixed sill of a normally present window assembly in the building wall. To effect such coupling, the frame sill has a mounting fin having engaging means with a groove formed longitudinally therethrough. The attachment plate member has an engaging member which is complementary in cross-section to and received in the groove in the engaging means. The attachment plate member is thus positionable longitudinally relative to the mounting fin so as to be able to be interposed snugly between the side jambs of the normally present window assembly.
