  • Patent number: 6272940
Abstract: A starting device for an electric starter motor is described which is capable of downsizing a small-sized motor per se without increasing torque of the small-sized motor by deceleration by gears, is capable of being fabricated in a small size as a whole and inexpensively, and is capable of setting a reduction gear having desired dimensions without significantly changing sizes in a radial direction and in an axial direction of total of a starter case. The starting device for an electric starter motor includes a ring gear driven by two or more small-sized motors and a clutch mechanism installed between the ring gear and an engine for starting the engine by rotating the ring gear. Featured in the starting device for an electric starter motor is a reduction gear which is interposed between the small-sized motors and the ring gear. The reduction gear is arranged on an outer side of the ring gear.

  • Patent number: 5676103
Abstract: A recoil starter is provided which prevents malfunction, such as disengagement of a claw, after the engine is started repeatedly even if the starter is not made of a material of high intensity. A spring can be wound substantially precisely circularly. It is quite easy to mount a friction plate to the starter. Furthermore, this subassembly does not loosen after long-term usage. A rope guide can be easily mounted to the starter case, thus reducing the fabrication cost. The recoil starter can be placed and locked in position relative to a fan cover with high accuracy. When the ratchet is in its protruded position, the pivotal point of the ratchet is located radially inside a pulley around the position where the pulley engages the ratchet. A ratchet support portion is formed radially outside the pulley on the reel. The ratchet forms a beam supported at its both ends. The beam acts against a force exerted by the pulley due to a resistance produced when the engine is started.

  • Patent number: 5636606
Abstract: A recoil starter casing is made from a plate. The plate has a polygonal top face and a plurality of rectangular side faces integral with and extending from respective edges of the top face. Each of the side faces includes a recess in its edge, and a pair of projections at opposite ends of the recess. A plurality of air inlets are formed in the side faces. The side faces are bent from the top face along the respective edges of the top face. A fan cover has slots. The projections are inserted into the corresponding slots. The free ends of the projections are then bent so as to secure the starter casing to the fan cover. The inside of the starter casing is cooled through the air inlets and the recesses or air vents.

  • Patent number: 5193278
Abstract: Apparatus for cutting foliage having a rotating head and an annular ring mounted for independent rotation in the head. A cam follower is pivotally mounted in the ring and is guided along a circumferential camming surface formed in the head. The camming surface has spaced apart lobes located adjacent to stops. The free end of a supply line is passed over the cam follower and passed out of the ring to a predetermined cutting length. When the head is rotating at operational speed, the resultant centrifugal force of the follower and the line will hold the follower against the stop. If the line is worn or damaged the holding force is decreased and the follower is released and guided over the stop thus allowing the ring to turn relative to the head until the next stop is encountered. This causes a given amount of line to be played out to replenish the damaged or worn section.

  • Patent number: 4738085
Abstract: A rotary cutter head for use with a rotating filament trimmer in which a reel for winding cords or filaments is held between a housing covering a lower portion thereof and a retainer or hub fixed on the driven rotating shaft of the trimmer unit and is rotatably disposed within the housing. Within the bore of the reel, an axially movable slider is normally biased toward the retainer by the elastic force of a spring so that meshing engagement occurs between a peripheral array of axially projecting tongues formed on one end of the slider and a plurality of radial teeth-like ribs formed on the inner side of the retainer and establishes a driving connection to rotate the reels.

  • Patent number: 4637360
Abstract: A recoil starter composed of: a rotating reel which fits loosely around a supporting shaft in a housing, a cylindrical hub portion of the reel having a spiral spline which is integrally formed on its inner periphery; a clutch cylinder which is loosely inserted into the cylindrical hub portion and carries a spline groove for such engagement with the hub spline whereby relative rotation of the reel hub and clutch cylinder causes axial projection and retraction of the clutch cylinder; and clutch projections which are provided at the free end of the clutch cylinder such as to project and engage recesses integral with a flywheel on the associated engine. Inside the clutch cylinder at its bottom a stepped portion is provided where an axial notch is formed.
