  • Patent number: 5077579
Abstract: A copier selectively operable in a cover plate mode which uses a cover plate and an automatic document feeder (ADF) mode which uses an ADF. After a cover plate mode operation of the copier, a person is inhibited from operating the copier when a condition wherein the cover plate is closed and documents are loaded on a document feed table of the copier is detected.

  • Patent number: 5060922
Abstract: A copying paper processing apparatus comprises a sorter, a stapling device for stapling sheets of copying paper sorted by the sorter, and a device for automatically selecting and setting a sort mode when a staple mode is selected and set. The processing apparatus may comprise a switch for selecting the stapling operation, and a device for automatically selecting and setting a staple mode when the staple selecting switch is turned on and a sort mode is selectively set. The processing apparatus may comprise a device for transmitting a signal indicating that there is no staple needle when the number of staple needles left in the stapling device is a predetermined number greater than the total number of bins of the sorter. The processing apparatus may comprise a device for inhibiting the operation of the stapling device when one of sensors respectively disposed in a paper-receiving base of the stapling device and a sorter bin of the sorter detects that there is no paper.

  • Patent number: 4696563
Abstract: A multi-mode copying apparatus includes a contact glass on which an original is placed facing downward, a scanning unit for scanning along the contact glass, a photosensitive drum, imaging unit for forming a copy image on the drum, at least one cassette for storing therein a quantity of copy sheets, a size detector for detecting the length of the copy sheets stored in the cassette, and a control system for controlling the operation of the apparatus in accordance with the length information detected by the size detector. In one mode of operation, the control system divides the original surface into two original surface sections, i.e., left and right half sections, based on the length information supplied from the size detector, and copies are produced from at least one of the left and right half sections using a home position of the scanning unit as a reference for each copying operation.

  • Patent number: 4682158
Abstract: A machine has a control panel with a plurality of keys controlling various functions. A display exhibits prompts as to the proper operation of the machine. An operator can learn the functions of the keys by manipulating them and observing the resulting prompts. The display additionally exhibits maintenance and (in a diagnostic mode) diagnostic prompts. Sensors respond to various maintenance or diagnostic conditions. Signals from the sensors cause a storage means to supply corresponding prompts to the display to prompt the needed maintenance or diagnostic procedure. When the appropriate procedure has been performed, additional prompts for subsequent procedures will be displayed if appropriate.

  • Patent number: 4677310
Abstract: A power supply control device for a copier of the type having a timer therein is disclosed. The device allows a power supply of the copier to be turned on and off at any desired time which is set through ten keys. Data entered through the ten keys are loaded in a store. The data read out of the store and present time data output from the timer are compared and, as they compare equal, a power supply driver turns on the power supply. Guidance displays are referenced in the event of entering data.

  • Patent number: 4391508
Abstract: A copying machine permits a desired number of copies to be set therein even in a warm-up period after a power switch is turned on, and starts the operation of a timer after a first display unit displays a copy ready condition. When a manual sheet feed switch is turned on, the entry of a desired copy number is inhibited. When the manual sheet feed switch is turned on after the entry of a desired copy number, a second display unit is loaded with a numerical value "1", the copy number is stored in a memory, and the timer is disenabled. As the manual sheet feed switch is turned off again, the preset copy number stored in the memory is indicated by the second display and the timer is activated.
