  • Patent number: 7507460
Abstract: There is disclosed a plugged honeycomb structure 1 having: partition walls 2 arranged in such a manner as to form a plurality of cells 3 extending from one end face 42 to the other end face 44 through an axial direction; an outer peripheral wall 7 which surrounds an outer periphery of the partition wall 2; and plugging portions 4a, 4b disposed in such a manner as to plug the cell 3 in either end face 42, 44. In the plugged honeycomb structure 1, at least some of plugging portions 4a arranged in at least the vicinity of the outer peripheral wall protrude from the end face 42 or 44. Alternatively, there are provided a plugged honeycomb structure 1 in which a tip of the protruding portion 4a is substantially flat or has a moderate curved face, and a method of manufacturing the structure. The plugged honeycomb structure 1 does not easily break, is capable of enhancing durability, and is preferably usable in a filter such as a diesel particulate filter (DPF).

  • Publication number: 20040198599
Abstract: The present invention lies in a process for producing a honeycomb structure having a plurality of cells each functioning as a passage of fluid, the process comprising: applying mask 11 to some of the cells, at an end face of ceramic honeycomb structure; dipping the end face having mask 11 in slurry 10 containing at least a ceramic powder, to force the slurry into cells without mask, to form plugged portions 2 therein; and drying the plugged portions 2 to obtain a honeycomb structure 1 wherein cells without mask are plugged, characterized in that the drying of the plugged portions 2 is conducted by a thermal conduction device 12.

  • Patent number: 5887498
Abstract: There are disclosed a cylindrical member, constituting the main body of an electrophotographic photosensitive drum or a developing sleeve adapted for use in an image forming apparatus such as electrophotographic copying machine, laser beam printer, facsimile or printer, and a producing method therefor. A work obtained by cutting a tube, is worked to a predetermined internal diameter at the left-hand end, and is supported by an opening collet of the left arbor, while the other end is supported by a closing collet of the right arbor. A cutting tool holder, supporting a rough cutting tool and a finish cutting tool, rotates around the work at a high speed, and the work is moved axially by the table. Thus, the rough cutting tool and the finish cutting tool move in the axial direction of the work while rotating along the external curved surface thereof, thus cutting the surface.

  • Patent number: 5771425
Abstract: A cylindrical structure is formed by a cylinder and a terminal engaging member, such as a gear or flange for rotating the cylinder. The terminal engaging member has a head which is inserted into the cylinder and a plurality of recesses by which the member is fastened to at least one end of the cylinder through bending and cutting the assocrated cylinder at plural parts thereof into the recesses of the terminal engaging member. In this mannaer, the joint between the cylinder and the terminal engaging member can be formed securely in a simple manner. The cylindrical structure may be employed, for example, as a photosensitive drum or a developing sleeve for electrophotography.

  • Patent number: 5173229
Abstract: A fibrous material is placed at a desired place on a preliminarily ceramic shaped body and ceramic powder added thereto. The preliminarily ceramic shaped body, ceramic powder and fibrous material subjected to mold pressing and then to cold isostatic pressing. The resulting shaped material is subjected to removal of the fibrous material and then to firing, thereby a ceramic having desired perforations can be produced.
