  • Publication number: 20060103637
Abstract: An inputting/outputting apparatus and method is disclosed wherein the position of an object which is in contact with or in the proximity of the apparatus can be detected with a high degree of accuracy with a simple structure without deteriorating the picture quality while the convenience in use is assured. Each pixel of a display section includes a display cell and a light reception cell. Emission of light of the display cell is controlled so that it blinks by a number of times per unit time corresponding to the number of frames per unit time. Reception of light by the light reception cells is controlled such that the amount of light incoming to all light reception cells is acquired within one light emission period and also within one no-light emission period. The invention can be applied to an image display apparatus.

  • Publication number: 20060017717
Abstract: An apparatus and method wherein a high detection sensitivity to light irradiated from the outside can be assured, in which each pixel of an I/O display apparatus can perform a light emitting action for displaying an image and a light receiving action for detecting light irradiated from the outside. In the light emitting action, a switch is switched on to cause an electroluminesence element to emit light. In the light receiving action, the switch is switched off so that charge generated by the electroluminesence element in response to reception of light from the outside is accumulated into a parasitic capacitor. This state is maintained for a predetermined period of time, within which all charge generated by the electroluminesence element is accumulated into the parasitic capacitor. After the period of time, the charge in the parasitic capacitor is extracted to detect the input light from the outside.

  • Publication number: 20050264227
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a controlling apparatus for controlling an inputting and outputting apparatus of the active matrix driving type including pixels each having an electroluminescence element whose operation can be changed over between light emitting operation and light receiving operation in response to a voltage applied thereto, including: a removing section for removing, when the light receiving operation is to be performed by the electroluminescence element included in a predetermined pixel, charge accumulated in a parasitic capacitance upon the light emitting operation performed immediately before the light receiving operation by the electroluminescence element; and a detection section for detecting light inputted from the outside to the inputting and outputting apparatus based on an output from the predetermined pixel including the electroluminescence element whose charge has been removed from the parasitic capacitance thereof by the removing section.

  • Publication number: 20050212733
Abstract: In order to carry out information transmission/reception intuitively and easily, a black-and-white pattern of a symbol representative of data of an image is switched every scan timing of one frame of a display unit and is displayed continuously only during a period displaying whole data of the image. In an information processing terminal, the data of the image is acquired in accordance with the symbol read by a reader/writer. To the contrary, in a case of transmitting data from the information processing terminal to a display apparatus, a symbol representative of data to be transmitted is output from the reader/writer to be read by a read area formed at a predetermined position of the display unit. In the display apparatus, data is acquired in accordance with the read symbol. The present invention may be applied to various information processing apparatuses including a personal computer, PDA, a television receiver.

  • Publication number: 20030174109
Abstract: The present invention provides an active matrix type liquid crystal display employing the line inversion driving. At the time of the wide mode display, in which specific area (black frame area) of the pixel unit (11) consisting of such as upper two rows and lower two rows are displayed in black, the liquid crystal display drives the gate lines (24−1, 24−y−1) of odd number rows and the gate lines (24−2, 24−y) of even number rows of the black frame area using driving pulses (1) and (2) of different lines which are generated by the driving pulse generating circuit (135), while sequentially outputs image signals whose polarity is inverted every 1H period to the signal lines (25−1˜25−x) via the horizontal switches (122−1˜122−x) to perform line inversion driving in the black frame area.
