  • Patent number: 5572018
Abstract: Rotation of a code plate fixed to a shaft of a detecting object is detected for producing a one-rotation signal and an incremental signal corresponding to a division of one revolution into a plurality of equal sections. The incremental signal is counted by a counter, thereby detecting an absolute position using an encoder. The counter is cleared in response to a one-rotation signal arriving first after the encoder starts its detecting operation. The counter continues to count the incremental signal in proportion to rotation of the shaft of the detecting object after its count value is once cleared, without clearing the count value in response to subsequent one-rotation signals. Thus, the counter obtains an absolute distance from a position where the counter received the first one-rotation signal to a present position.

  • Patent number: 5122980
Abstract: 2M-bit position data is divided into lower-order M-bit data and higher-order M-bit data. The lower-order M-bit data is stored in a lower-order storage area (14a) of a read only memory (ROM) (14), the higher-order M-bit data is stored in a higher-order storage area (14b) of the ROM. The lower-order and higher-order items of M-bit data are read out of the lower-order storage area (14a) and higher-order storage area (14b) by making the most significant bit of address data "0" and "1" successively by way of an address changing unit (15). These items of data are combined by a combining unit (17) to obtain 2M-bit position data.

  • Patent number: 5121116
Abstract: An absolute position encoder for detecting the position of a moving object includes a coding part attached to the moving object which receives sinusoidal and cosinusoidal signals through channels. Each channel receiving signals having a different number of cycles from the other channels per unit of movement of the object. The signals received by each channel are converted to digital form by an analog to digital (AD) converter and stored in a ROM. Discrepancies between the sinusoidal and cosinusoidal phase are corrected digitally by comparing the digital results of the channels, adjusting the data from higher-order channels to conform to that of adjacent lower-order channels, and finally combining the data for each channel to obtain the absolute position of the moving object.

  • Patent number: 4972080
Abstract: A signal processing apparatus for a pulse encoder for electrically processing an output signal from a signal generating source and improving the resolution of the encoder. A sine-wave signal and a cosine-wave signal supplied from the signal generating source are converted into digital signals by a first and a second A/D converters, and supplied to a signal converting device. The signal converting device outputs an analog amplitude level and position data in response to the outputs from the first and second A/D converters. Consequently, the signal processing apparatus for the pulse encoder has a simple circuit arrangement and a small size, furthermore, the apparatus can confirm the intensity of a signal supplied from the signal generating source.
