  • Patent number: 6706029
Abstract: A diaper structure is formed with a leakage preventing arrangement, in the form of a flexible flap located outwardly with respect to a diaper absorbent core. The flap is formed with a support portion extending upwardly from the diaper surface to support an inwardly extending inner branched portion and an outwardly extending outer branched portion extending the length of the support portion. Both the inner and outer branched portions are fixed to the diaper body at longitudinal ends thereof in longitudinally stretched condition so that a pocket is jointly formed by a portion of a topsheet covering a side edge of the core, the support portion and the inner branched portion. The pocket is maintained in an open position independently of a wearer's posture to impede the leakage of excretions from the diaper.

  • Patent number: 5150562
Abstract: In a packaging technique for resiliently deformable articles (such as paper diapers or sanitary napkins), a stack of the articles are packed into a shell-like, inner cassette having an open top and bottom, the inner cassette is wrapped from above with a sheet of film having cardboard flaps extending from respective opposite side margins thereof and the stack of articles is ejected from the inner cassette through the open top, together with the sheet of film into an outer cassette which maintains the partly packed profile. Lower, trailing, flap-form ends of the wrapping extend below the stack on two opposite sides of the cassette, forming flaps that are subsequently folded in overlapping relation to cover the exposed bottom of the stack of articles and heat-sealed together and transversely extending margins of the sheet of film are folded and heat-sealed against the cardboard ends to form a package of predetermined shape.

  • Patent number: 5110386
Abstract: The present invention pertains to a method wherein a concavoconvex cutting line is applied repetitively in a periodical way in the longitudinal direction of a continuous first web to form first and second partial webs; said first partial web is offset with respect to said second partial web in the longitudinal direction by a prescribed interval so that the concave edges and the convex edges of the first and second partial webs are positioned opposite to and aligned with each other, whereafter a continuous second web is used to connect the outside edges opposite to the said aligned concave and convex edge portions of the first and second partial webs, and as the second web is bonded with the outside edges of the partial webs a composite web is formed, following which the first and second partial webs of the composite web are spread apart.

  • Patent number: 4992125
Abstract: This disclosure is directed to an apparatus adapted to cut an elastic member for fitness of opposite side edges around the user's legs into desired lengths and then to successively attach these lengths of the elastic member onto a disposable diaper.

  • Patent number: 4892528
Abstract: Here is disclosed a disposable diaper comprising an absorbent core of a desired thickness, a water-permeable topsheet covering at least an upper surface of said core, a water-proof or a water-impervious backsheet covering at least a bottom surface of said core, water-impervious side flaps extending outwardly of opposite sides of said core, first elastic bands adapted to form elastic gathers longitudinally of the respective flaps and leakage protecting baffles formed along opposite side edges of said core and contained second elastic bands to provide elastic gathers longitudinally thereof.

  • Patent number: 4834740
Abstract: Here is disclosed a method for making wearable articles such as disposable diaper, disposable diaper cover or the like, more particularly, a method for forming side flaps provided with elastic members to provide fitness around wearer's legs. According to this method, the side flaps are formed from first portions extending from opposite sides of a main body of the article and second portions, respectively, each of the second portions is provided along one side edge with said elastic member, the second portion is placed upon the first portion, and the first portion and the second portion are selectively sealed together in an area between their outer side edges and the elastic member so that the opposite sealing lines are spaced from each other wider at least in a rear area than in a central area.

  • Patent number: 4568344
Abstract: Here is disclosed a waist band for diaper to connect the front and rear waists at each side. In contrast with the pressure-sensitive adhesive tape of prior art which necessarily forms an overlapping portion of said front and rear waists at each side of the diaper when the latter is put on the user, this waist band has not only a function to adjust a circumferential dimension of the waist but also the fastening function of the conventional adhesive tape. The waist band disclosed herein has a relatively large length including an area of low rigidity (or high flexibility) serving for said adjusting function and another area of high rigidity serving for said fastening function. Furthermore, this waist band is made of basic material consisting of nonwoven fabric having high flexibility and plastic film which is at least partially melted into said nonwoven fabric integrally therewith so that said area serving for fastening function may have a desired high rigidity.

  • Patent number: 4525229
Abstract: Here is disclosed method for attaching elastic band to sanitary articles such as disposable diapers. The elastic band is cut into predetermined lengths which are then intermittently attached by adhesive to a web forming said articles. Said elastic band is severed on a surface of a rotary suction drum so that the respective lengths thus severed and isolated may be intermittently attached to said web. Said elastic band may comprise a plurality of relatively narrow or fine rubber strands. Particularly in such a case, said elastic band is attached to a support tape wider than said elastic band and having high flexibility before cutting so that these rubber strands may be reliably held on the surface of said suction drum.
