Abstract: The present invention provides a method of compressing image data. The method includes a step of transforming image data into data composed of frequency components. In the transforming step, a number of bits calculated for frequency components requiring relatively low calculation quality for a transforming process is reduced below a number of bits calculated for frequency components requiring relatively high calculation quality for the transforming process. The present invention increases calculation speed while suppressing the degradation of image quality.
