  • Publication number: 20070070007
Abstract: In order to prevent reduction in performance due to variations in illuminance of external light, a liquid crystal display unit includes: a pixel section including pixels arranged at each of intersections where a plurality of scanning lines and a plurality of signal lines intersect, and optical sensor circuits provided to at least part of the pixels; an imaging section which generates a multi-gradation image based on detection results of the optical sensor circuits; and a gradient value calculation section which calculates a gradient value which is a ratio of a variation in a gradation tendency value of the multi-gradation image to a variation in sensitivity of the optical sensor circuits.

  • Publication number: 20060192766
Abstract: A liquid crystal display apparatus according to the present invention includes a pixel array unit 1 having signal lines and scanning lines respectively arranged side by side, a signal line drive circuit 2 which drives the signal lines, a scanning line drive circuit 3 which drives the scanning lines, a signal processing output circuit 4 which serially outputs the picked-up image data supplied from the sensors, and a sync signal generation circuit 5. A black-white change obtained in the picked-up image data when a finger is brought close to or brought into contact with the pixel array unit 1 is detected, and the coordinate position of the finger is identified taking the ambient brightness into consideration. Regardless of whether the surroundings are bright or dark, therefore, the coordinate position can be detected with high precision.

  • Publication number: 20060170658
Abstract: In order to enhance accuracy of determination as to whether an object has contacted a screen and to enhance accuracy of calculation of a coordinate position of the object, edges of an imaged image are detected by an edge detection circuit 76, and by using the edges, it is determined by a contact determination circuit 77 whether or not the object has contacted the screen. Moreover, in order to appropriately control sensitivity of optical sensors in response to external light, by a calibration circuit 93, a drive condition of the optical sensors is changed based on output values of the optical sensors, which are varied in response to the external light.

  • Publication number: 20060007224
Abstract: In order to allow information input using light in both the cases of strong outside light and weak outside light, two or more types of light-sensing elements having different optical sensitivities are arranged in a picture element region. For example, there are alternately arranged rows having arranged therein picture elements 21 provided with low-sensitivity light-sensing elements, and rows having arranged therein picture elements 22 provided with high-sensitivity light-sensing elements. This constitution makes it possible to perform optical information input using the high-sensitivity light-sensing elements in the case of weak outside light, and to perform optical information input using the low-sensitivity light-sensing elements in the case of strong outside light.
