  • Patent number: 9999018
Abstract: An eNodeB operable to maintain timing advance groups (TAGs) in a heterogeneous network (HetNet) is disclosed. The eNodeB can form a timing advance group (TAG) for one or more serving cells when a same timing advance applies to the one or more serving cells. The eNodeB can map each of the one or more serving cells to the TAG using radio resource control (RRC) signaling from the eNodeB. The eNodeB can assign a timing advance group identifier (TAG ID) to the one or more serving cells mapped to the TAG. A separate timing advance timer can be maintained at a user equipment (UE) for each TAG for a selected period of time.

  • Patent number: 9992742
Abstract: Technology for reducing coexistence interference in a multi-radio wireless device is disclosed. In one method, a determination is made if coexistence interference is occurring in the multi-radio device. The multi-radio device is then configured to not monitor physical downlink control channels for pending uplink transmissions in a wireless wide area network (WWAN) transceiver in the multi-radio device that occur during an unscheduled period of discontinuous reception (DRX).

  • Publication number: 20180152331
Abstract: The present invention provides a preamble that is inserted into an OFDMA frame and has a common sequence for all the base stations participating in a transmission. The subscriber station performs fine synchronization using the common sequence on the common preamble, and the resulting peaks will provide the locations of candidate base stations. The base station specific search is then performed in the vicinities of those peaks by using base station specific pseudo-noise sequences. With this two stage cell search, the searching window is drastically reduced. The preamble is matched to known values by a respective receiver to decode the signals and permit multiple signals to be transferred from the transmitter to the receiver. The preamble may comprise two parts, Preamble-I and Preamble-2, which may be used in different systems, including multioutput, multi-input (MIMO) systems.

  • Publication number: 20180152269
Abstract: Disclosed herein are apparatuses, systems, and methods using or implementing dynamic resource allocation (DRA) of resources for machine-type communication (MTC), as a secondary partition within a system bandwidth. Allocations outside the secondary partition are configured as a primary partition for other than MTC. Apparatuses may perform MTC communications within the secondary partition when DRA configuration information includes allocation information for the secondary partition and the apparatus is configured for MTC. Otherwise, if the apparatus is other than MTC, the apparatus may refrain from performing communications in the secondary partition. Other embodiments are described.

  • Publication number: 20180146404
Abstract: The periodic broadcasting of system information by an eNB is costly in terms of both spectrum and energy. Embodiments described herein more efficiently transmit system information and are particularly applicable to 5G deployment scenarios. In one embodiment, an LTE cell broadcasts system information to be used by a UE in initially connecting to a 5G cell, termed initial access system information. The 5G cell may then transmit system information upon request by a connected UE or when the system information is updated.

  • Patent number: 9974004
Abstract: A system and method for authorizing access to a transmission station for a mobile device is disclosed. The mobile device can receive device extended access barring (EAB) configuration information in a broadcast control channel (BCCH) from a transmission station. The mobile device can bar the mobile device configured for EAB and having characteristics identified in the EAB configuration information for barring from accessing the transmission station. Alternatively, a system and method for barring a mobile device from accessing a transmission station is disclosed. The transmission station can receive from the mobile device a radio resource control (RRC) connection establishment request. The transmission station can configure a system information block (SIB) with extended access barring (EAB) configuration information. The transmission station can broadcast the SIB with EAB configuration information to the mobile device.

  • Patent number: 9974060
Abstract: Methods, base stations and access terminals for uplink signalling are provided. Resource request channel characteristics such as location in time-frequency, sequence, time slot, are assigned to each access terminal to distinguish their resource requests from the resource requests of other access terminals. Access terminals make requests using a resource request on a resource request channel having the assigned characteristics. The base station can then determine which access terminal transmitted the resource request based on the resource request channel characteristics of the resource request channel upon which the resource request was received. The base station then transmits a response to the request which may for example be a new resource allocation, a default allocation or a renewal of a previous allocation.

  • Publication number: 20180132127
Abstract: Wireless communication traffic can be offloaded from a user equipment (UE) to two wireless points of access. For example, user equipment (UE) is connected to a radio access network (RAN) using a radio access technology (RAT) such as a long term evolution (LTE) network. The UE can determine which network capabilities are available for traffic offloading and adapt to the capabilities presented. In one embodiment, the UE can determine whether the network supports three different configurations and configure traffic offloading to operate within the network conditions: (1) RAN rules without access network detection and selection function (ANDSF), (2) ANDSF in conjunction with RAN rules or (3) enhanced ANDSF with RAN assistance.

  • Patent number: 9942793
Abstract: A user equipment (UE) is configured to receive a maximum probability of accessing a wireless local area network (WLAN) for communication. The maximum probability is received via a 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) communication link with an Evolved Universal Terrestrial Radio Access Network (E-UTRAN) Node B (eNB). The UE is further configured to determine that there is a queued transmission for the UE and, in response to determining that there is a queued transmission, to determine whether the UE is authorized to access to the WLAN using a probability less than or equal to the maximum probability. The UE is further configured to delay contention for access to the WLAN for at least a pre-backoff duration in response to determining that the UE is not authorized.
