Publication number: 20240173273Abstract: SARS-COV and SARS-COV-2 share similar pathogenic pathways that interact with pathways of cellular cholesterol metabolism. Depletion of cholesterol from cell membranes reduced the infectivity of SARS-COV by 90%. Several studies reported that pantethine was able to reduce total cholesterol levels and total fatty acids synthesis but its anti-SARS COV-2 activity has never been investigated. The inventors now demonstrate that pantethine is highly effective in the control of SARS-COV-2 infections in vitro. In particular, the inventors show that the effect of pathethine on the inhibition of the replication of SARS-COV-2 is interested at the dose of 100 ?M (inhibition is around 76%) and the most effective concentration is 1000 ?M (inhibition is around 98%). Pantethine treatments were able to reduce significantly the expression of the viral Spike and Nucleocapsid proteins and the accessory proteins ORF6. Thus the present invention relates to the use of pantethine for the treatment of a SARS COV-2 infection.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 23, 2022Publication date: May 30, 2024Inventors: Mireille LAFORGE, Mohamad ABOU HAMDAN, Lucien DE REGGI, Rachelle SALEH

Patent number: 9733187Abstract: The method of detecting bladder cancer by optical analysis of bodily fluids utilizes optical techniques to determine a concentration of porphyrin in a patient's bodily fluid sample. The patient is administered 5-aminolevulinic acid and, approximately eight hours later, a bodily fluid sample is collected from the patient, and this bodily fluid sample is optically analyzed to measure a concentration of porphyrin therein. Optical analysis is preferably performed by laser-induced fluorescence spectroscopy. If the measured concentration of porphyrin is approximately three times a pre-determined porphyrin concentration for a healthy person of the same age as the patient, then the patient is diagnosed with bladder cancer.Type: GrantFiled: March 6, 2015Date of Patent: August 15, 2017Assignee: King Saud UniversityInventors: Vadivel Masilamani, Mohamad Saleh Alsalhi, Karim Hamda Farhat, Danny Monther Rabah, Saradh Prasad, Sandhanasamy Devanesan
