  • Publication number: 20220315843
Abstract: Systems and methods for crude oil desalting technology are provided. More specifically, systems and methods for the usage of waste heat from compression to treat high salinity water are provided. The systems and methods generate recycled water streams for desalter treatment. The systems and methods can treat high salinity waters from desalters and dehydrators. The high salinity streams are introduced to the compressed gas streams, where the waste heat causes the water portion of the water streams to evaporate, resulting in a fully or near-saturated gas stream and a concentrated waste water stream. The saturated gas streams are cooled and condensed, and low TDS water is separated from the gas stream in knockout drums. The low TDS water can be reintroduced to the desalting system as wash water, generating a circular water reuse.

  • Publication number: 20220306495
Abstract: A method to reduce the generation of waste water comprising the steps of withdrawing a formation water stream from production equipment; introducing the formation water stream to a forward osmosis unit, where the forward osmosis unit comprises a semipermeable membrane, where the formation water stream is introduced to a draw side of the semipermeable membrane; withdrawing a surface water feed from a waste water collection pit, the surface water feed comprises water and contaminants; introducing the surface water feed to the forward osmosis unit, where the surface water feed is introduced to a feed side of the semipermeable membrane; separating the water in the surface water feed through the semipermeable membrane, where the water travels from the feed side to the draw side due to osmotic pressure; withdrawing a diluted stream from the draw side of the semipermeable membrane; and introducing the diluted stream to a water-oil separation plant.

  • Publication number: 20220234009
Abstract: A flow of a chemical is mixed with a flow of a primary fluid to form a combined fluid, and during mixing a velocity of the combined fluid is maintained at a threshold value so that a resulting mixture of the chemical and primary fluid has a designated homogeneity. The primary fluid is directed to an end of a passage with a venturi like contour that is inside of a mixer, and the chemical is directed to a side passage that extends laterally in the mixer that intersects the passage. A spring loaded valve in the passage maintains the combined flow velocity at the threshold value.

  • Publication number: 20220212964
Abstract: An aqueous feed stream having a first total dissolved solids (TDS) level is flowed to a forward osmosis separator. The aqueous feed stream includes seawater. An aqueous draw stream having a second TDS level is flowed to the forward osmosis separator. The second TDS level is greater than the first TDS level. A disposal stream and an injection fluid stream is produced by the forward osmosis separator by allowing water to pass from the aqueous feed stream to the aqueous draw stream through a membrane of the forward osmosis separator based on a difference between the first TDS level and the seconds TDS level. The injection fluid stream is flowed from the osmosis separator to a subterranean formation.

  • Patent number: 9810365
Abstract: A pipeline pig includes a plurality of relief channels and a bypass channel extending therethrough. To regulate a speed of the pipeline pig, relief valves within the relief channels open when a differential pressure between upstream and downstream ends of the pipeline pig reaches a pre-selected minimum relief pressure. If the differential pressure reaches a pre-selected maximum relief pressure, such as when the pipeline pig encounters an obstruction, the relief valves close to allow the differential pressure to further increase to clear the obstruction. If the further increase in differential pressure is insufficient to clear the obstruction and the differential pressure reaches a pre-selected minimum bypass pressure, a bypass valve opens to permit fluid flow through the bypass channel while the relief valves are closed. Flow through the bypass channel operates to reduce turbulence and permit production through the pipeline if the pipeline pig becomes stuck and obstructs the pipeline.
