  • Patent number: 11444376
Abstract: Systems and methods for performing calibration of antenna arrays with dual-polarization antenna elements are disclosed. An example system includes an antenna array and a calibration circuitry. The antenna array includes a plurality of antenna cells arranged in K rows and L columns, each cell including a plurality of dual-polarization antenna elements. Antenna cells in columns 1 through Y form a first sub-array, while antenna cells in columns Y+1 through L form a second sub-array. The calibration circuitry is configured to perform calibration by individually calibrating each column of antenna cells of the first sub-array, calibrating different columns of antenna cells of the first sub-array with respect to one another, individually calibrating each column of antenna cells of the second sub-array, calibrating different columns of antenna cells of the second sub-array with respect to one another, and calibrating antenna elements of the first and second sub-arrays with respect to one another.

  • Patent number: 11349208
Abstract: An antenna apparatus for calibrating one or more of a plurality of antenna elements of an antenna array using one or more probes is disclosed. The apparatus includes an upconverter and/or downconverter (UDC) circuit and a calibration arrangement that includes a switching circuit. The switching circuit is configured to enable operation of the UDC in a first mode or in a second mode. When the UDC is in the first mode, the one or more probes are electrically disconnected from the UDC circuit and the UDC may be connected to at least one of the antenna elements. When the UDC is in the second mode, at least one of the one or more probes is connected to the UDC circuit.

  • Patent number: 11277108
Abstract: An example VGA includes a transistor arrangement having a plurality of transistors configured to realize one or more gain step circuits of the VGA, and a cross-couple switching arrangement having a plurality of switches configured to selectively change the coupling of the terminals of at least some of the transistors depending on whether a given gain step circuit is supposed to be in an ON state or in an OFF state. Using the cross-couple switching arrangement advantageously allows keeping all of the transistors ON at all times during operation and changing the coupling of some transistor terminals to either realize an in-phase addition of currents flowing through various transistors to apply the maximum gain or realize a subtraction of currents to apply the minimum gain. Such a VGA may be inherently wideband, enabling a highly linear, wideband operation without having to resort to significant trade-offs with other performance parameters.

  • Patent number: 10567063
Abstract: Systems and methods for providing phase shifting in antenna arrays, such as phased antenna arrays of 5G cellular technology, are disclosed. In one aspect, an example phase shift module may include a phase shifter and a frequency multiplier. The phase shifter is configured to receive an LOcal oscillator (LO) signal and output a signal that is phase-shifted by a desired phase shift with respect to the LO signal. The frequency multiplier may be an enhanced frequency multiplier, configured to use not only the phase-shifted signal but also an inverted version of the phase-shifted signal to generate a frequency-multiplied signal having a frequency that is a multiple of the LO signal frequency. In another aspect, an example phase shift module may be configured to apply to an LO signal a phase shift that takes into consideration variations of phase shift over temperature.
