    Abstract: The present disclosure provides a method for assessing the environmental effects of alkylbenzenesulfonate (LAS). For example, the method includes contacting a population of cells with a sample, measuring an expression level of one or more LAS biomarkers in the cell population, comparing the level of expression of the one or more LAS biomarker to one or more reference values corresponding to the one or more LAS biomarkers, and determining an LAS risk associated with the sample.
