  • Patent number: 11060374
Abstract: Methods for producing a swellable packer in a downhole environment are provided. A method includes introducing a treatment fluid containing a polymeric composition into a wellbore within the downhole environment and exposing the polymeric composition to an acid to produce a swollen polymeric material within the downhole environment. The polymeric composition contains a reaction product of at least one or more monomers, one or more comonomers, and one or more crosslinkers. The acid can be in situ formed from an acid precursor introduced into the downhole environment.

  • Patent number: 9701414
Abstract: A system and method are provided for controlling the movement of an aircraft engine cowl door between an open position and a closed position. The system includes an electric motor, at least one actuator, and an electrically operated brake. The actuator is coupled to the motor and is operable to move the cowl door between the closed and the open position. The electrically operated brake is coupled to the electric motor and the at least one actuator and is configured, upon being energized, to supply a unidirectional resisting torque load to the electric motor that does not prevent motor rotation.

  • Publication number: 20150303677
Abstract: A system for generating and supplying electrical power to DC loads on an aircraft may include a permanent magnet machine (PMM) generating an output voltage at a plurality of output terminals and a solid-state switch connected to each of the output terminals to short-circuit the output terminal when the switch is ON. A control unit may be configured to detect an unbalanced fault in the system and, responsively to said detection, to close all of the switches simultaneously to convert the unbalanced fault to a balanced fault so that DC currents are precluded from circulating within the PMM.

  • Patent number: 7527207
Abstract: Methods are disclosed for triggering a source of visible light in connection with a data reader in response to a sensed proximity of an item. In one configuration, a data reader includes a imaging reader, such as a CMOS imager, that is sensitive to both infrared illumination and visible light. The imaging reader may be operable to read a symbol, such as a barcode or other optical code, via reflected infrared illumination, reflected visible light, or both. When characteristics of reflected illumination received by the imaging reader indicate that presence or movement of an item in the visible scan zone, the visible light source may be triggered to illuminate the item and thereby facilitate reading of the symbol using the same imagine reader as is used to sense the presence of the item. The visible light source may also be triggered to provide visual feedback.
