    Abstract: A damage assessment method is provided. The method comprises recognizing a region of interest in an image that corresponds to a visible damage inflicted on a target object. The method further comprises determining a first plurality of feature values for a plurality of image features based on the recognized region of interest. The method further comprises retrieving, from a memory, time-series information that indicates a usage pattern of the target object and determining a second plurality of feature values for a plurality of usage features based on the retrieved time-series information. The method further comprises providing the first plurality of feature values and the second plurality of feature values as input to a trained classifier and predicting a true age of the visible damage based on a classification output of the trained classifier for the first plurality of feature values and the second plurality of feature values.

This modular design expands the utility of nanopore sensors to numerous proteins while preserving their architecture, specificity, and sensitivity. The sensing elements were validated with protein analytes that drastically vary in size, charge, and structural complexity. These analytes produce unique electrical signatures that depend on their identity and quantity and the binder-analyte assembly at the nanopore tip.

At the highest level, the architecture is structured to enable each processor, which is dedicated to a specific media processing function, to operate substantially in parallel. In addition to processor-level parallelism, each processing unit can operate on multiple words in parallel, rather than just a single word per clock cycle.     Abstract: The present invention is a system on chip architecture having scalable, distributed processing and memory capabilities through a plurality of processing layers. In a preferred embodiment, a distributed processing layer processor comprises a plurality of processing layers, a processing layer controller, and a central direct memory access controller. The processing layer controller manages the scheduling of tasks and distribution of processing tasks to each processing layer. Within each processing layer, a plurality of pipelined processing units (PUs), specially designed for conducting a defined set of processing tasks, are in communication with a plurality of program memories and data memories. One application of the present invention is in a media gateway that is designed to enable the communication of media across circuit switched and packet switched networks.

    Abstract: A method and an apparatus for automatically measuring the thickness and the roughness of elongated articles, such as wooden boards. The device comprises a housing having an opening therethrough to receive at least a portion of a board to be measured. At least one contact probe is provided in the housing and is biased against at least one surface of the board to sense irregularities in the flatness of the surface along a measured length thereof. A measuring circuit is connected to the contact probe to provide a measurement signal representative of the sensed irregularities and variations in thickness. A distance measuring device is also provided in the housing to measure the distance of displacement of the board past the contact probe. An output display means indicates selected ones of the measurements obtained. A computing means accumulates measured values of the means, minimum and maximum thickness, for a group of boards and permits the extraction of such statistical information.

    Abstract: The disclosure herein describes a trocar particularly intended for use in laparoscopic tubal cauterization and formed of: a puncturing sharp-pointed instrument, a cannula with a flange at one end thereof, a flexible insulating ring which is received in the flange recess bore, and a collar secured in the flange bore. The collar retains the ring in the flange while allowing it to flex as the puncturing instrument is introduced in the cannula or disassociated therefrom. The puncturing instrument, cannula and collar are made of inexpensive bio-compatible plastic materials while the ring is made of rubber; consequently, the trocar is disposable after use.
