  • Patent number: 5198052
Abstract: A method for making gypsum wall board in which during the production of the board pressure is applied to a portion or all of the board surface to reshape, compress and densify the gypsum core to change the shape or contour the face surface of the gypsum board. The pressure must be applied in a systematic fashion to avoid creating lateral shifting or shear stresses in the gypsum core or between the core and paper surface to avoid destroying the paper to gypsum core band. The method can be used to product a cross taper at the cut ends of the board, to produce a decoratively shaped board surface and to densify the entire board core for special gypsum board applications.

  • Patent number: 4647486
Abstract: Increased fire resistant gypsum board core formulations and plaster fireproofing formulations are provided by incorporating calcium sulfate anhydrite into the formulations. Particularly fire resistant effects are achieved with a fibrous form of calcium sulfate anhydrite, and with blends of calcium sulfate anhydrite II in particulate or fibrous form. Optionally, the formulations may contain either small amounts of textile glass fiber, wollastonite or vermiculite.

  • Patent number: 4557973
Abstract: Blown mineral wool fibers are introduced into slurries (such as gypsum board core formulations and steel column fireproofing plaster formulations) by first blending and coating the blown mineral wool with a powdered calcium sulfate to produce a light, open nodulated effect. When mixed into aqueous calcined gypsum slurries, the nodules open up, thoroughly dispersing the mineral wool--calcium sulfate blend in the aqueous slurry and contributing fire resistant properties to the set gypsum product.

  • Patent number: 4376674
Abstract: A method of manufacturing flame and abuse resistant fiber panels by treating the surface of water-laid fiber mats with an aqeuous slurry of sodium silicate and calicum carbonate and drying the mats is disclosed. The slurry is applied to the wet mat after wet pressing and before drying while the mat still contains considerable moisture content. The resulting products present a hard, abuse resistant, flame resistant and water resistant surface.
