    Abstract: A method of making a hybrid material is described. The hybrid material comprises a metal substrate layer, a carbon fiber composite layer, and an adhesive layer. The adhesive layer may be a foam adhesive. The adhesive layer minimizes thermal distortion of the metal substrate layer and the carbon fiber composite layer such that both layers experience less than 5% out-of-plane distortion.
