  • Patent number: 5606829
Abstract: A decompression panel is releasably secured in a decompression opening of a partition structure by means of mounting elements that can release the panel in either a blow-in or a blow-out direction. A perimeter frame bridges the area at the perimeter of the panel and overlaps the edges of the panel and of the partition structure around the decompression opening. Respective pairs of mounting elements are arranged near the edge of the panel and the edge of the partition structure to releasably secure the perimeter frame to the partition structure and to the decompression panel. Each mounting element includes a bolt and a retaining device including two conical sleeves arranged one within the other. The bolt is screwed into the inner sleeve and the inner sleeve is releasably connected to the outer sleeve by frangible safety tabs, which break at a rated force to release the bolt and thereby free the decompression panel and allow it to be displaced out of the decompression opening.

  • Patent number: 5217184
Abstract: A retaining wall for intercepting and holding freight pieces in a cargo hold of an aircraft cabin is provided with two parallel wall sections enclosing a space in which there are mounted elastically deforming hollow spring tubes which have an elliptical cross-section and are so arranged that the small axis of the ellipse is oriented in the direction of impact, while the long axis of the ellipse is oriented perpendicularly to the impact direction. The spring tubes may have a layered construction for a controlled spring characteristic. The elastic energy damping of the spring tubes may be combined with a friction energy absorption device.

  • Patent number: 5201481
Abstract: A partition in the form of a device for intercepting and retaining of cargo in a cargo hold is mounted between the cargo hold and a passenger cabin. The wall structure itself has a first group of energy absorbers extending horizontally between two wall sections. The mounting structure for the retaining wall includes a second group of energy absorbing elements. The shock absorbing elements of the second group are arranged in pairs so that two elements of a pair extend in parallel to each other. The two elements of the pair are journalled at one end to a mounting block by a first cross-wise extending journal pin or shaft. The journal pin passes through the mounting block which in turn is adjustably secured to a support rail. The other ends of the energy absorbing elements of a pair are interconnected by a second journal shaft which in turn holds a mounting claw.

  • Patent number: 5085017
Abstract: Decompression panels of this type are used in separation devices such as wall or floor sections which separate a passenger compartment from a freight compartment in an aircraft. For a decompression without damage to the respective wall or floor section, it is necessary to cover or close an opening in the wall or floor section by a panel secured to a rim of the opening by frangible mounting elements that break away in response to a decompression which may be of the blow-in or blow-out type. In a blow-in situation one panel is removed to form an opening. Two panels interconnected with each other are removed in a blow-out situation. In both instances frangible mounting elements break and permit opening a decompression hole in the separation device. All the frangible mounting elements are of identical construction. The arrangement of the frangible mounting elements on one side or on the opposite side of a panel section permits the panel release in the respective direction.

  • Patent number: 4957250
Abstract: A device for intercepting and retaining of cargo that may have become loose in a transport or baggage compartment or cabin of an aircraft, is located between a freight compartment and a passenger compartment of an aircraft. The device forms an additional protective screen or wall connected to a mounting structure by connection flanges, e.g. the air frame or cabin structures such as the floor and ceiling. The protective screen has at least two wall sections arranged one behind the other with a spacing between the wall sections. The wall sections are joined to each other by energy absorbing elements inserted in the spacing to form a composite, laminated structure. Each wall section has an external covering. The passenger cabin facing wall section may have a decorated surface. The baggage compartment facing wall has a tough material covering to take up impacts, when a piece of cargo should hit the wall surface.
