Publication number: 20180301907Abstract: Various distribution side controllers for power systems are disclosed. Power systems includes a power generation subsystem and one or more distribution networks. Power systems may also include a transmission system coupled between the power generation subsystem and the distribution networks. The distribution side controller monitors the operation and availability of power from distributed power sources coupled to its respective distribution network, as well as load demand from loads on the distribution network. The distribution side controller may also monitor conditions on the distribution network to identify a power imbalance within the distribution network. The distribution side controller responds to such imbalances to reduce their effect on the power system as a whole. In some embodiments, multiple distribution side controllers for various distribution networks may cooperate to provide efficient power generation for the whole power systems.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 11, 2018Publication date: October 18, 2018Inventors: Reza Iravani, Mohammad Sedighy, Tom Wai Lai Ma

Publication number: 20080013590Abstract: A method and system for stabilizing energy consumption in multiple loads, or in single multi-phase loads. The method and system also compensates for unbalance in multi-phase loads. A central controller monitors variable reactances in the loads and identifies situations of power and/or current fluctuation and/or unbalance. It determines appropriate corrective action by the other loads/phases to compensate for the power and/or current change or unbalance due to the problematic load, and it issues control signals instructing variable reactor controllers associated with the other loads to adjust accordingly. The method and system may by applied to electric arc furnace installations. An electrode position controller may be used in place of, or in conjunction with, the variable reactance control system to take corrective action to address power and/or current changes or unbalances. The system and method may be employed to maintain a predetermined level of unbalance in the system.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 4, 2007Publication date: January 17, 2008Applicant: Hatch Ltd.Inventors: Mohammad Sedighy, Thomas Ma

Patent number: 7295593Abstract: The described methods and systems may be applied to electric arc furnace installations. In this context, the method and system provide an electrode position controller coupled to the feed rate controller so as to predictively anticipate the introduction of new source material and lower the electrodes so as to prevent arc extinguishment while variable reactors are controlled to maintain predetermined power set-points. The electrode position controller may be used in place of, or in addition to, the variable reactance control system to take corrective action to address power and/or current changes or unbalances.Type: GrantFiled: August 30, 2005Date of Patent: November 13, 2007Assignee: Hatch Ltd.Inventor: Mohammad Sedighy
