Patents by Inventor Mohammad Ali Maddah-Ali

Mohammad Ali Maddah-Ali has filed for patents to protect the following inventions. This listing includes patent applications that are pending as well as patents that have already been granted by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

  • Patent number: 8743995
Abstract: Channel gain information is utilized for determining linear, or non-linear, combinations of transmitted symbols to increase symbol throughput. The base station recombines symbols directed to different receivers in response to the channel gain information. Channel gain information, which is subject to delay, has been previously utilized merely for predicting current channel gains prior at the time of transmission. The present invention, however, utilizes the channel gain information to increase coding efficiency even when the channel gain information is not utilized for predicting current channel gains. The method, apparatus and systems of the invention are applicable to any configuration of multiple wireless transmission to multiple receivers.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 20, 2013
Date of Patent: June 3, 2014
Assignee: The Regents of the University of California
Inventors: David Ngar Ching Tse, Mohammad Ali Maddah-Ali

  • Patent number: 8488728
Abstract: A method and apparatus for transmitting and receiving a wireless transmission of a plurality of data streams in a wireless communication system having a plurality of nodes is disclosed. Each node has multiple antennas. The method involves receiving first and second data streams from respective first and second nodes at a receiver node, causing the receiver node to generate a receive filter for decoding each of the received data streams, and causing the receiver node to transmit receive filter information for each of the first and second data streams, the receive filter information facilitating precoding of the first and second data streams for simultaneous transmission within a common frequency band to the receiver node.
