  • Patent number: 11989902
Abstract: A vehicular trailer beam estimation system includes a camera disposed at a rear portion of a vehicle equipped with a trailer hitch. With a trailer hitched at the trailer hitch of the vehicle, the camera views at least a portion of the trailer hitched to the vehicle. The system, responsive at least in part to processing by an image processor of image data captured by the camera, determines a trailer angle of the trailer relative to the vehicle. During a driving maneuver, the system tracks trailering parameters, which include (i) the trailer angle, (ii) steering angle of the vehicle and (iii) speed of the vehicle. The system determines beam length of the trailer based at least in part on (i) the trailering parameters, (ii) the vehicle's wheelbase and (iii) hitch length of the trailer hitch of the vehicle.

  • Publication number: 20240153232
Abstract: A vehicular trailer assist system includes a camera disposed at a vehicle and viewing at least a portion of a trailer hitched to the vehicle. The system, during a first turning maneuver of a calibration maneuver of the vehicle and trailer, stores a subset of the frames of image data captured by the camera. Each stored frame of the stored subset of the frames captures the trailer at a respective different trailer angle relative to a longitudinal axis of the vehicle. The system determines image data edges for each stored frame of image data. The system, after performing the first turning maneuver of the calibration maneuver and during a second turning maneuver of the calibration maneuver, and based at least in part on the determined image data edges for the stored frames of image data, determines a jack-knife angle of the trailer relative to the longitudinal axis of the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 11861878
Abstract: A vehicular trailer assist system includes a camera disposed at a vehicle and viewing at least a portion of a trailer hitched to the vehicle. A control, responsive to processing of frames of image data captured by the camera and during a calibration maneuver by the vehicle, determines an initial trailer template of trailer hitched to the vehicle. During a turning portion of the calibration maneuver, a subset of frames of image data is stored, each stored frame of image data including the trailer at a different trailer angle relative to a longitudinal axis of the vehicle. The control, responsive to storing the subset of frames of image data, converts each stored frame of image data to an edge image and matches each edge image to the determined initial trailer template, and determines a location of a hitch ball of the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 11377029
Abstract: A vehicular trailer assist system includes a camera disposed at a rear portion of a vehicle, a plurality of sensors, and an electronic control unit (ECU) having a processor for processing image data captured by the camera and sensor data captured by the plurality of sensors. The ECU, responsive to processing of image data captured by the camera, determines a trailer angle of the trailer relative to the vehicle. The ECU, responsive to processing of sensor data captured by the plurality of sensors, predicts a yaw rate of the vehicle and a trailer angle of the trailer relative to the vehicle at a future time. The ECU, responsive to predicting the yaw rate, determines a corrected vehicle yaw rate based on processing of captured image data and captured sensor data, and determines a corrected trailer angle, and determines a vehicle heading and position and a trailer heading and position.

  • Publication number: 20210078634
Abstract: A vehicular trailering assist system includes a rearward viewing camera at a vehicle and an electronic control unit (ECU). During a reversing maneuver of the vehicle and trailer while the vehicle is in motion and the trailer is hitched to the vehicle, the ECU (i) determines a target trajectory for the trailer, (ii) determines a lateral path deviation of the trailer that represents a deviation of a current trajectory of the trailer from the target trajectory for the trailer, (iii) determines a trailer heading angle correction, and (iv) determines a target trailer angle of the trailer relative to the vehicle based on the current trailer angle of the trailer and the trailer heading angle correction. Responsive to determination of the target trailer angle of the trailer, the ECU controls steering of the vehicle to achieve the target trailer angle and direct the vehicle and the trailer towards the target trajectory.
