  • Patent number: 10059234
Abstract: A seatback includes a lower frame, an upper frame, and a hinge coupling the lower and upper frames. An actuator is fixed relative to the lower frame, and a cable extends from the actuator to the upper frame. In the event of a collision, the actuator pulls the cable, and the upper frame moves from an upright position to a bent position relative to the lower frame.

  • Publication number: 20180236970
Abstract: A vehicle includes seats having both a primary three-point seatbelt and a supplemental two-point seatbelt. Occupation of a first seat is determined. The three-point seatbelt is determined as being one of buckled and unbuckled. The two-point seatbelt is determined as being one of buckled and unbuckled. A warning signal is initiated upon determining that one of the seatbelts is unbuckled and the seat is occupied. The warning signal is terminated upon determining that both of the seatbelts are buckled and that the signal has been initiated.

  • Publication number: 20180229681
Abstract: An airbag assembly includes a base member and an airbag supported by the base member and being inflatable to an inflated position. The airbag includes a panel and a plurality of sheets attached to the panel. The panel includes a first portion extending in a first direction from the base member to a distal end and a second portion extending in a second direction transverse to the first direction from the base member to a distal end. Each sheet is elongated in the first direction along the first portion of the panel and elongated in the second direction along the second portion of the panel. During a vehicle impact, the momentum of the occupant may move the occupant towards the airbag. The airbag may absorb energy from the head and knees of the occupant, which may assist in reducing injuries.

  • Patent number: 10046723
Abstract: A passive energy absorber to be supported by a bumper of a vehicle is disclosed. The passive energy absorber may include a base extending laterally, multiple fins, and multiple stoppers. Each fin may extend longitudinally from the base and be spaced laterally from adjacent fins to form lateral gaps therebetween. Each stopper may form, with a corresponding portion of the base, a triangular prism in a different lateral gap. The base, multiple fins, and multiple stoppers may be formed of polymeric material.

  • Patent number: 10040421
Abstract: A retractor includes a spool, a torsion bar and a torsion tube rotationally fixed to the spool, and a locking member aligned with the torsion bar. The torsion bar and the torsion tube extend coaxially from the spool to respective first ends, and the torsion bar has a key. The locking member is movable from an unlocked position rotationally disengaged with the torsion bar to a locked position wherein the key rotationally fixes the locking member to the first end of the torsion bar. When the locking member is in the unlocked position, the torsion bar may be plastically deformed to limit the load applied by webbing against an occupant. If sufficient force is applied to the webbing, the locking member moves to the locked position in which both torsion bar and the torsion tube are locked together and, in tandem, limit the load applied by the webbing.

  • Publication number: 20180215338
Abstract: An airbag for a vehicle includes a top, a bottom, a first panel, and a second panel spaced from the first panel. The airbag includes a first leg, a second leg, and a middle leg. The first leg extends from the first panel in a rearward direction. The second leg extends from the second panel in the rearward direction. The middle leg extends from the first panel and the second panel in the rearward direction. The first panel and the second panel each slant in the rearward direction along a direction from the top to the bottom of the airbag. The first panel and the second panel of the airbag in the inflated position may urge occupants to remain upright during an impact event, reducing loading on a chest of the occupants from seat belt.

  • Publication number: 20180208255
Abstract: A tire lift assembly may include an upper plate, a rod, and a pair of handles. The rod may connect the upper plate to a trunk support surface spaced from the upper plate to receive a tire therebetween. Each of the pair of handles may be mounted for rotation to the upper plate and each may include a tab. Rotation of each of handles orients the respective tab for engagement and non-engagement with the tire. Each of the handles may be arranged with the upper plate so that the tabs define a dimension greater than a diameter of a rim through-hole of the tire when the tabs are rotated for engagement with the tire.

  • Patent number: 10029643
Abstract: An airbag includes a panel and a plurality of fingers. The panel includes an impact surface and defines an inflation chamber inflatable to an inflated state. The plurality of fingers are in communication with the inflation chamber. Each of the fingers are spaced from each other and extend from the impact surface away from the inflation chamber in the inflated state. During a vehicle impact, the momentum of the occupant may move the occupant towards the plurality of fingers. The fingers may absorb energy from the occupant and reduce or prevent the head of the occupant from sliding across the impact surface and/or rotating.
