  • Patent number: 4532597
Abstract: A programmable controller which generates a digital normalized diameter signal and a digital normalized reel strip velocity signal is adapted for the generation of inertia compensation either with a constant torque, a constant horsepower, or a maximum torque reel system.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 23, 1982
Date of Patent: July 30, 1985
    Assignee: Westinghouse Electric Corp.
Inventors: Mohammed Safiuddin, Bhupendra S. Surana
  • Patent number: 4520450
Abstract: A digital ramp function generator controls the speed of a motor drive system by initial contouring according to an arithmetic progression up to the intended ramp rate, and by final contouring according to the same arithmetic progression in reverse, thereby to reach the intended speed (by acceleration, or by deceleration). The digital ramp function generator is established at the intended ramp rate and contouring effects by a programmable controller programmed by the operator.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 23, 1982
Date of Patent: May 28, 1985
    Assignee: Westinghouse Electric Corp.
Inventors: William H. Snedden, Mohammed Safiuddin
  • Patent number: 4513232
Abstract: A general purpose length controller to be associated with a cyclic-duty motor drive contains stored digital data representing a standard parabolic speed profile .omega.=4(t-t.sup.2), and a scaling function automatically scales up such standard profile to match the motor drive maximum speed, the desired duty-cycle and the desired material length over which such cyclic-duty motor drive processes material being fed for mechanical treatment.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 27, 1983
Date of Patent: April 23, 1985
    Assignee: Westinghouse Electric Corp.

  • Patent number: 4227130
Abstract: A torque compensation system is disclosed for d.c. motor drives using field weakening for speed control. A diode switching matrix and a static divider are connected so that the divider receives signals which are functions of motor armature current and speed respectively, and delivers at its output a signal which is proportional to motor torque for adjusting the speed reference to the motor.

    Filed: January 19, 1978
Date of Patent: October 7, 1980
    Assignee: Westinghouse Electric Corp.
Inventors: Mohammed Safiuddin, Henry A. Dickerson
  • Patent number: 3983466
Abstract: A motor field control for d.c. drives, for regulating the speed in response to an input reference signal E.sub.in. A first operational amplifier is arranged as a ramp generator to receive the input command E.sub.in and deliver an output E.sub.1, having a maximum magnitude equal to E.sub.F. A potentiometer having a sliding contact is connected in the output of the first operational amplifier, the potential of the sliding contact with respect to ground defining an attenuation potential -.alpha.E.sub.1. The factor .alpha. is adjustable between O . . . n to include both fractional as well as whole numbered values. A second operational amplifier is arranged to sum three inputs: -E.sub.F, E.sub.in and -.alpha.E.sub.1 and deliver an output E.sub.2 for controlling the field flux beyond base speed.E.sub.2 = E.sub.F - E.sub.in +.alpha.E.sub.1the simple selection of the magnitude for the attenuation factor .alpha. determines the crossover point between armature voltage control and field flux control for the d.c. motor.
