  • Patent number: 10467482
Abstract: The disclosure relates to a method and an arrangement for assessing the roadway surface being driven on by a vehicle. In a method according to the disclosure, on the basis of at least one image recorded with a camera that is present on the vehicle, the roadway surface being driven on by the vehicle is classified using a classifier. The classifier is trained on the basis of image features that are extracted from the at least one image, wherein a plurality of image details are defined in the at least one image. The extraction of image features is performed independently for each of these image details.

  • Publication number: 20190299978
Abstract: A method for training an autonomous vehicle to reach a target location. The method includes detecting the state of an autonomous vehicle in a simulated environment, and using a neural network to navigate the vehicle from an initial location to a target destination. During the training phase, a second neural network may reward the first neural network for a desired action taken by the autonomous vehicle, and may penalize the first neural network for an undesired action taken by the autonomous vehicle. A corresponding system and computer program product are also disclosed and claimed herein.

  • Patent number: 10283113
Abstract: The disclosure concerns a method for recognizing driving noise in a sound signal that is acquired by a microphone disposed in a vehicle. The sound signal originates from the surface structure of the road. According to the disclosure, a segment of the road lying ahead of the vehicle in the direction of travel is observed with a sensor installed in or on the vehicle. Using the observation data obtained, the start and duration of driving noise originating from the surface structure of the road are predicted.

  • Publication number: 20180239969
Abstract: According to one embodiment, a method for detecting free space near a vehicle includes obtaining an image for a region near a vehicle. The method includes generating, based on the image, a plurality of outputs that each indicate a height for an image column of the image where a boundary of a drivable region is located. The method further includes selecting a driving direction or driving maneuver for the vehicle to stay within the drivable region based on the plurality of outputs.

  • Patent number: 9604607
Abstract: A method of controlling a vehicle includes providing a vehicle having a brake system configured to operate according to a nominal mode in which applied braking pressure is based on a driver braking request, a first active braking mode in which applied braking pressure is based on maximum ABS braking pressure and decreased in response to a driver brake pedal release, and a second active braking mode in which applied braking pressure is based on maximum braking pressure. In response to a detected collision, the system is controlled according to the first active braking mode. In response to the first active braking mode being active and no driver braking request being anticipated, the system is controlled according to the second active braking mode. In response to the first or second active braking modes being active and a termination criterion being satisfied, the system is controlled according to the nominal mode.

  • Patent number: 9010471
Abstract: A wheel bearing unit comprises an inner ring and an outer ring. The outer ring is mounted rotatably and is arranged concentrically with respect to the inner ring. The inner ring serves to receive a wheel and the outer ring serves for fastening to a wheel support of a motor vehicle. The wheel bearing unit has, between the inner ring and the outer ring, a first ball row and a second ball row which is arranged parallel to the first ball row. A follower is arranged in a rotationally fixed manner with respect to an outer side of the inner ring between the first ball row and the second ball row. The follower is connected directly or indirectly to a rotor of an electric machine in a torque-transmitting manner.
