  • Patent number: 11701222
Abstract: An intraocular lens (IOL) injector is configured for single hand operation and employs a compressed gas to provide a motive force to present an IOL to a surgical site. The IOL injector includes a mechanical brake coupled to a plunger to preclude translation of an IOL absent operator input. The mechanical brake provides for selectively varying the speed and translation of the plunger, and hence IOL during presentation of the IOL to a patient. The IOL injector can also include at least a first stop, which halts movement of the plunger at a predetermined position. The at least first stop is then moved to a passing position, thereby allowing further operator controlled translation of the plunger to present the IOL to the surgical site.

  • Publication number: 20220151771
Abstract: A shuttle, vial and injector are provided for storing and presenting an IOL to a patient. The shuttle includes operably engaged shuttle plates having a set of confronting surfaces that flex about a flexure interface between a storage configuration, with at least an optic of an IOL in a nominal state and a loading configuration, with at least an optic of an IOL in a deformed state. The vial engages the shuttle and maintains the shuttle in the storage configuration. The injector receives the shuttle from the vial and includes surfaces for flexing the portions of the shuttle plates to the loading configuration upon engagement with the injector, wherein the shuttle plates impart a predetermined curvature to at least a portion of the IOL.

  • Patent number: 9155615
Abstract: An intraocular lens (“IOL”) cartridge includes an upper wall and a lower wall, together defining a lumen for receiving an IOL. The proximal end of the cartridge has an open slot cut into and through the entire thickness of the upper wall so to allow the leading haptic of the IOL to extend above the upper wall. The cartridge includes a proximal-end feature to facilitate folding of the leading haptic radially inward relative to the optic as the IOL moves into the lumen.

  • Patent number: 8740848
Abstract: A device for dispensing fluid to a patient enabling either or both of a continuous flow, as well as successive, large-volume boluses. A first reservoir provides a source of fluid under pressure. A bolus flow path provides for the delivery of a bolus dose of fluid and an optional continuous flow path provides a continuous flow rate of fluid. Both flow paths are in fluid communication with the source of fluid. A bolus delivery system in fluid communication with the bolus flow path receives fluid from the first reservoir, expands to pressurize fluid, stores the pressurized fluid, and dispenses the pressurized fluid while avoiding bolus refill until enabled to expand in a subsequent delivery cycle. An actuator releases fluid from the bolus delivery system such that when actuated by the patient, fluid is permitted to flow out of the bolus reservoir to the patient without further action by the patient.

  • Patent number: 8308688
Abstract: A patient controlled liquid drug administration device is provided that enables either or both of a continuous flow of a liquid drug, as well as successive, large-volume boluses thereof, to be self-administered to and by a patient while avoiding bolus refill during bolus delivery or after bolus delivery but before an intake stroke of the pump occurs. The device includes an elongated housing having an axial cavity extending through it with a reciprocating pump mounted at a bottom end thereof. The pump defines a closed internal reservoir and includes a first wall, or seat, that is fixed in the cavity, and a second, flexible wall that is axially movable in the cavity in relation to the fixed wall between reservoir-full and reservoir-empty positions. The pump includes an inlet port that is connectable to a source of a pressurized liquid drug by an inlet conduit, and an outlet port subcutaneously connectable to the patient by an outlet conduit, both conduits extending out the bottom end of the housing.

  • Publication number: 20060184166
Abstract: An apparatus that is used to perform a medical procedure on a cornea. The apparatus may include a ring that can be placed on a cornea and a probe that can deliver energy to denature corneal tissue. The probe can be moved about the ring and cornea by a first actuator. A second actuator may move the probe into contact with the cornea to deliver energy and denature tissue. The process of moving the probe and delivering energy can be repeated to create a circular pattern of denatured areas. The circular pattern of denatured areas may correct for hyperopia. The actuators may be controlled by a controller that operates in accordance with a program to move the probe and create the circular pattern of denatured areas in an automated process.
