Patent number: 11774927Abstract: Methods and apparatus to provide a role-based user interface are disclosed herein. An example system disclosed includes a display device to depict a user interface. The example system also includes a processor. The example processor is to receive object information for an object in a process control system during a session, determine a user role based on the session, determine whether the object information is qualifying information based on the user role, and display the object information via the user interface when the object information is qualifying information.Type: GrantFiled: December 17, 2014Date of Patent: October 3, 2023Assignee: FISHER-ROSEMOUNT SYSTEMS, INC.Inventors: Bryan Michael Jones, Cindy A. Scott, Molly Marie Firkins, Dan Halver Ussing, James R. Balentine

Patent number: 10860195Abstract: Configuring graphical display views to be presented, at a user interface of an operating environment of a process plant, using multiple graphical display themes includes configuring a display theme object to indicate a plurality of themes via which the display view is able to be presented at the user interface. The display theme object includes a parameter whose value is changeable, within the operating environment, to indicate a desired theme that is to be utilized, and the display theme object is downloaded from the configuration environment into the operating environment. Thus, during runtime, changing the theme via which the graphical display view is presented is achieved without any additional downloads from or communications with the configuration environment. User controls may be provided to an operator to select different themes, and/or to override various visual aspects of themes to achieve optimum visibility. Themes may be automatically changed based on sensed conditions.Type: GrantFiled: September 10, 2018Date of Patent: December 8, 2020Assignee: FISHER-ROSEMOUNT SYSTEMS, INC.Inventors: Julian K. Naidoo, Cindy A. Scott, Molly Marie Firkins, Keith R. Bellville, Mark J. Nixon, Cristopher Ian Sarmiento Uy, Daniel R. Strinden, Robert B. Havekost, Hubbard F. Fellows

Patent number: 10444949Abstract: A display configuration system enables plant operators to create their own process displays called dashboards during run-time of the plant and in the same interface that these operators use to view operation of the process plant. This display configuration system makes the operators more productive because the operators can quickly create and implement their own specialized dashboards, as these operators determine these dashboards are needed. Each dashboard has a defined layout specifying locations or regions at which display elements can be shown in the dashboard, and this layout is operator modifiable. Operators can easily create content on their own dashboards using predefined but configurable display building blocks called gadgets, which can be pre-stored in a library and can be made available for the operator during dashboard creation activities.Type: GrantFiled: October 8, 2013Date of Patent: October 15, 2019Assignee: FISHER-ROSEMOUNT SYSTEMS, INC.Inventors: Cindy Alsup Scott, Paul Kenneth Daly, Hoa Van Lai, Deeann Gates Del Guzzi, Stephen Gerard Hammack, Larry Oscar Jundt, Molly Marie Firkins

Publication number: 20180088565Abstract: Techniques for previewing an operator display of a process section in a process plant include presenting a process section on a user interface device, where the process section includes a user control for presenting and/or displaying another process section on the process plant display. In response to receiving user input indicative of a request to display a preview of the other process section via the user control, the user interface device presents the other process section while simultaneously presenting the process section in a preview mode. The process sections in the preview mode may be presented side-by-side, above and below each other, in separate display windows, etc.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 2, 2017Publication date: March 29, 2018Inventors: Prashant Joshi, Julian K. Patent number: 9557735Abstract: Example methods and apparatus to manage process control status rollups are disclosed. A disclosed example method includes receiving process control information from at least one process control device included within a process control system, determining at least one issue associated with a portion of the received process control information, receiving a selection of a status type, determining if the at least one issue is associated with the selected status type, and displaying a process control status rollup associated with the selected status type and including the at least one issue.Type: GrantFiled: December 10, 2009Date of Patent: January 31, 2017Assignee: FISHER-ROSEMOUNT SYSTEMS, INC.Inventors: Molly Marie Firkins, Stephen C. Gilbert, Cindy Scott

Patent number: 9513780Abstract: Techniques for flexibly configuring an operating process plant or process control system enable a change to a parent object to be selectively propagated to child objects derived from the parent object, so that a first subset of child objects and their respective instantiations are updated with the change, while a second subset and their respective instantiations remain unchanged. The parent object may be a class or instance process object corresponding to a process entity, and the first and/or the second subset of child objects may be selected. In some cases, the change may have been a propagated change, to the parent object, from a child object that is excluded from the first or the second subset of child objects. In some cases, the change may first be propagated to an instance object derived from the parent object, and then propagated from the instance object to a child object.Type: GrantFiled: October 8, 2013Date of Patent: December 6, 2016Assignee: FISHER-ROSEMOUNT SYSTEMS, INC.Inventors: Cindy Scott, Molly Marie Firkins, Keith R.
