  • Patent number: 8872481
Abstract: Battery management systems and methods related to predicting power-delivery performance are provided. In one embodiment, a method for predicting power-delivery performance for a battery includes retrieving a plurality of battery operating parameters for a selected discharge cycle, calculating an offset indicative of a difference between a modeled internal resistance of the battery and an observed internal resistance generated from a calibration discharge cycle of the battery prior to the selected discharge cycle, and outputting a battery power-delivery performance prediction based on an offset-corrected internal resistance indicative of a difference between a modeled internal resistance based on the plurality of battery operating parameters for the selected discharge cycle and the offset.

Date of Patent: October 28, 2014
    Assignee: General Electric Company
Inventors: Monika Chawla, Necip Doganaksoy, Herman Wiegman

  • Patent number: 8299756
Abstract: A system and method are provided for battery control of hybrid vehicles such as, but not limited to, hybrid locomotives. The system and method are implemented to sense a present state of charge (SoC) of one or more batteries and generate present SoC data there from, sense a present excursion defined by a relationship represented as maximum SoC?minimum SoC for a desired cycle and generate present excursion data there from, and control the one or more battery power/current charging limits in response to the present SoC data and the present excursion data.

  • Publication number: 20090309527
Abstract: A method of dynamic motor braking is disclosed herein. The method comprises: dissipating reverse energy in a motor within motor windings during a non-current supplying period of a commutation sequence by intermittently shorting the motor windings. The motor windings are shorted by simultaneously turning on all switches that are connected to a voltage source or to ground in a three-phase bridge motor control.
