  • Patent number: 5977678
Abstract: A multi-functional apparatus employing a magnetic coupling mechanism. The magnetic coupling mechanism selectively couples an actuator shaft and a second shaft driven by a rotatable driving member. In another aspect of the present invention, the magnetic coupling of the shafts is electrically controlled, whereby the driven shaft can be actuated independently from other systems actuated by the multi-functional apparatus. In an automotive context, a window wiper may be attached to the driven shaft, such that when the magnetic coupling mechanism is disengaged the window wiper can move in relation to upward pivotal movement of the opened window.

  • Patent number: 5969431
Abstract: A linearly actuating multi-functional apparatus for use in an automotive vehicle includes a single electromagnetic device which linearly operates a pair of mechanical devices. In another aspect of the present invention, a plunger of a solenoid is selectively moved between various longitudinal positions in order to directly and linearly move a portion of a first mechanical device interfacing with a window assembly and move a portion of a second mechanical device, such as a door lock or latch.

  • Patent number: 5920159
Abstract: In accordance with the present invention, the preferred embodiment of a multi-functional apparatus employing a flexible drive element for selectively actuating multiple output includes an electromagnetic device and a flexible drive element with a plurality of members thereon. In another aspect of the present invention, a flexible closed loop drive element in response to selective energization of an electric motor, and at least one rotatable member is coupled to one accessory such as a window wiper. The member attached to the drive element are arranged in a loop motion or discontinuous manner and selectively engage the rotatable member and thus actuate the attached accessory.

  • Patent number: 5522638
Abstract: An overhead console for a motor vehicle including an integral remote control unit storage compartment is provided. The invention allows for the remote control unit to be activated directly by actuating a pivotable door to an open position or indirectly while the remote control unit remains in the storage compartment.

  • Patent number: 5331525
Abstract: The primary sun visor is co-existent with a low profile thin member, known as a recessed tray, which is independent from the headliner substrate and is thinner than the headliner substrate it replaces. The recessed tray contains an integrally molded center support and outboard bezel area. The primary sun visor vanity mirror lamps have been removed and integrated into the recessed tray. The recessed tray retains both the primary and auxiliary sun visors.

  • Patent number: 5278736
Abstract: Electric circuity (45) in a lighted vanity mirror module (5) for an automobile sun visor (40) is mounted on the backside of an appearance bezel (10), thereby obviating the necessity for a separate housing. A wire wound resistor (80) is employed in a lamp dimmer (37) and, with the bezel, retains a sliding contact which controls lamp intensity.
